I have heard Coach Dutch in numerous interviews explaining SDSU's recruiting philosophy and NIL is 3rd or 4th on the list. They lead off with Winning and the Family culture and then if they think a player is a good fit then they talk about NIL. SDSU isn't going to recruit players that are looking for a pay day. With the recent transfers it looks like they might have misjudged some players but SDSU has a specific player they recruit to our system and I have no doubt that SDSU Basketball will continue to thrive because we have done more with less resources than any team in the country for the past 25 years. Dutch and staff will fill the holes and we will continue to compete at a high level.

So it could get very interesting as coaches are recruiting players who brings up the NIL situation and at what part of the recruitment ?
There are reports that SDSU "passed " on PF/C Agee could it have been after they talked about NIL

We've heard more than a few athletes who are offered very large contracts say they feel disrespected because the offer isn't what they wanted or feel they're worth. This generation now at college age is probably the most entitled generation ever, you hear that from everywhere ... employers, coaches, etc. so I'd imagine that many would get into the whole "feeling respected/ disrespected.

I'd say the days of coaches yellng at players saying, "Pull your head out of your ass", is over. Otherwise they'll hear, "I'm outta here." So where will the intensity come from? LOL

Per UT today, dutcher did not give Agee a scholarship because he played same postion as Saunders and did not want to take away Saunders minutes.

Not sure if they can move up the dates and time the Portal is open and limit the days you can enter .
As usual the Coaches who might be concerned about over recruiting players - get dinged
while the Money Schools do it all the time recruit over schools
But lets say Kentucky or the Buckeyes( or other Big Name or Big Money Schools bring in numerous other players in the same positions the guys that agreed to go there might choose to attend a different school ( not sure if Keshad did that ? ) or just enjoy the money as that is part of the game

Is it possible some of these players were unwilling to compete or be pressed for minutes? Honestly I was expecting Butler to go pro in Europe or somewhere, thought his leaving would allow for youth improvement

Bleacher Report: Kentucky Boosters Donate $4M for NIL After Mark Pope Replaces John Calipari. According to Matt Jones of Ky Sports Radio, two boosters have pledged a combined total of $4 million up front to the university for the purpose of name, image and likeness (NIL) payments to student-athletes.
The donations come on the heels of longtime head coach John Calipari leaving for Arkansas and the hiring of his replacement.

If I'm not mistaken, they only had ONE player on the roster after Cal left. Arkansas had ZERO players on the roster when Mus left. Cal took a few of his Kentucky players with him to AK. Both those schools will also have a harder time getting quality players on their rosters this late.

If a kid comes in and asks about what NIL money they get then then aren’t worth keeping them. I’m with Coach here. Wins, team, culture, dedication to the craft should be all that matters….the $ is a bonus and fruits of the labor. Gotta work for it in my mind. Just like every single person has to do every day…..justify their worth to the employer. Or get replaced.
In this environment, I think coaches should be allowed to “let a kid go” and anytime like the real world! NIL shouldn’t be free, but earned. I’m all for the kids getting paid, but the “I deserve it” should be backed up with something.
