This is only relevant to us cause we play St. Katherine’s almost every season in basketball. They are shutting down operations and filing for bankruptcy immediately. Sucks for all the students that are probably being hung out to dry. x.com/USKmbb/status/1783659584584143193

It sucks but we are going to see a lot more schools have financial problems over the coming few years given the sharp drop off in the number of births that happened in 2008 and beyond.

Then why does State have campuses in Georgia and Imperial Valley? Why expand when your customers are decreasing? Throw in useless courses and majors, cut them out to trim or slash the fat. From the web, lets cut off the fat, Africana Studies Minor and BA; Ethic and Gender Studies in Workplace Certificate; Pop Culture Certificate, Entire Asian Studies course, Brazilian Studies, Entire Classics Department= no one reads Caesar's Gallic wars in English or Latin any more; Somatic Studies Minor - you want yoga, go join a yoga studio, European Studies, French ( never liked them - good bye, a dying culture, same for German, even the Germans don't speak German any more, Same for Italian Minor, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Plus Studies want to know who you are, see a psychologist, Women Studies or add Male Studies. You will have to eliminate 20% of courses or departments in next 10 years, no students, cost of professors and time to be honest and say we can't be all things to the world. Open the Mike Rowe School of trades, that school is needed. College thinking is outdated, be creative and change.

If you really want to eliminate something that doesn't belong at a university...then eliminate all intercollegiate athletics. All those other courses / departments you mentioned teach people how to think, explore, and invent...and frankly speaking...I believe that we can all use a bit more of those qualities among the population. If you want to learn a trade...then go to a trade school...not a university dedicated to higher learning

If you want to learn a trade...then go to a trade school...not a university dedicated to higher learning I comments are directed to a declining birth rate and a bloated university. So we are sitting in a birth rate decline hence less customers. Secondly California's population is likewise declining and thus less tax dollars to feed the money pig. No problem. We will just raise the tax rate. Great drive more people from the state resulting even fewer tax dollar to feed the university pigs, If you can't raise taxes, then cut expenses. Basis from the home owner to the small business owner to large corporation. My examples are to eliminate those majors/programs that are not where this university is going. Keeping the Classics alive is not an SDSU goal. Let USD do it. Move on. This is a higher calling to well trained tradesmen than Women Studies majors- no critical thinking there. How do you have a major with math or science in it? We will shortly be overbuilt. Have to turn those empty seats into revenue generators. I am three daughters who all had the father meeting before they applied to college. Since I was paying for their college I told them I would not pay for an English major, a History major, Sociology, Psychology, Journalism, Studies majors.. Three degrees in Environment Studies (UCSB) Elementary Education (CSU San Marcos) and International Business (SDSU). Proud of each one. I stand by my list of future programs to be eliminated,

I have no info to back this up, but imho, we will see a major decrease in the number of highschool graduates opting to go to college in the coming years.

There were dire predictions that the enrollment in universities would take a major drop in the 1980s. That SDSU would be hit hard. Never happened, just the reverse.

Re: Government/University: It has never been a revenue problem - it's a spending problem.
Well sitting reading this morning this one comes from Daily Mail UK. Now I will quote them unlike the President of Harvard whose PHD is dripping with plagiarism I credit my sources.
"A trend showing students electing to avoid college in the hundreds of thousands has become increasingly prevalent since before the pandemic, with many choosing to take jobs amid fears of tuition and debt.
What first looked like a pandemic blip has turned into a crisis. Nationwide, undergraduate college enrollment dropped 8% from 2019 to 2022, with declines even after returning to in-person classes, according to data from the National Student Clearinghouse.
The slide in the college-going rate since 2018 is the steepest on record, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Many have turned to hourly jobs or careers that don´t require a degree, while others have been deterred by high tuition and the prospect of student debt. Economists say the impact could be dire.
At worst, it could signal a new generation with little faith in the value of a college degree. At minimum, it appears those who passed on college during the pandemic are opting out for good. Predictions that they would enroll after a year or two haven't borne out."
Personally I have 2 Junior grand kids, born and raised in CALI looking at these school, Penn State, Ohio State, UNC NCState, Miss, Tenn, SC, FLA, FSU, UCF, GA, ALABAMA, Clemson. The student drain is underway here and now. That 8% drop in 5 years should have a chilling effect on our planners. WE have to rethink what the definition of university truly is for today's environment. In two decades it will not be what it is today. ACT do not REACT.

This school was just an athletics mill. Only 3 of their students were not on an athletic team.
