This is really kind of the perfect guy. He's advanced offensively and a big body. He also knows he has to add defense to his resume' to go farther in basketball after getting his Masters (Ed) next year. His father specifically pushed him towards here because of Dutcher's defensive legacy. The list of schools that were interested in him is impressive: Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Louisville, Ohio State, Mississippi State and New Mexico.

Thank God. Takes a bit of sting out of the Butler announcement

Aztecs have not had the best luck signing true 5's in the Portal so this could be even more important then losing Butler - as there a lot more guards then there are 5's

more importantly Dutcher and the staff have done a lot to try to make sure they did get a decent 5
also have made sure they chat with the family members of recruits to make them aware of the family unit SDSU tries to include in their program - also the recent growth and development of some bigs Nathan and Ledee

But they won 4 games in 4 days to win the MWCT and replaced the guys they lost with effective players. They'll be good and as of now will play VCU, St Johns, U$C and Arizona State in their OOC schedule. They could have some good metrics by the time MWC starts.

I am hoping big time that this guy is the answer. He was third team all conference in CUSA. That's equivalent to about fifth team in the MWC.

I think you need to consider how Dutch is going to feature him. He may not have to carry the full load like LeDee had to. Out of the many young returnees, some may have breakout years to take some pressure off JC-J's dependence. Besides, even though he's a senior he's new to our program and the players so his adjustment might take some time.

Believe JCJ has said that he will graduate by the end of this semester and be able to enroll in Grad school for Summer Session to start learning the offense and defense
If his choice is number #31 = might remind SDSU of Nathan but think their styles are quite different

might we also add for those who are already finding the negative things about JCJ
the coaches have reached out to numerous guys in the Portal that play the 5 and only heard from a few guys that would consider playing at SDSU . Have had 3 visits that fans are aware of . Is JCJ the only one that said he would come to SDSU ?
So do the coaches grab a 5 while they can or continue to pursue 5's ? JCJ has had other offers
Just wondering ?

If JCJ wasn't, they wouldn't have offered him and would have waited till someone else was. And posing the phrase in bold like you did implies that the persons doing the choosing and considering are the players and not the staff. I think you're wrong there. By now, kids know who's going to give how much NIL money and how much playing time is potentially available. And the staff also has a much more accurate idea this year of who they should even initially contact because of how much $ they're looking for.

The Portal to my understanding
A player puts their name into the Portal
Schools reach out to the player to see if they have any interest
If they do not respond to a school - a school then can move on to guys that do
The Players have the leverage to decide what schools they want to consider - and every player has their own criteria for schools they want to consider
I did not put the phrase in bold
Correct players do their own homework for NIL money that a school might be willing to give or possible PT - as they should
Dutcher and the staff try their best to get the best players they can to fit into the program . BUT the player has the ability to make the decision as to what schools they want to visit and of course the school then can then decide if they want to offer the player and then the Player decides do they want to visit other schools or accept the offer from a school
Agee did come for a visit and so did Mady . Then they also went to visit other schools- It has been reported that SDSU passed on Agee - there is no official report if he was not a fit for what reasons ? it could be NIL the player wants - did not fit into the system the coaches wanted on or off the court ? Mady no clue other then there were reports he was leaning toward CAL
So SDSU decided to offer JCJ a scholarship and then JCJ decided to accept the offer
Signing a quality 5 is not easy - as they know there are not that many and NIL money has affected things also
JCJ seems to be a fit - would guess that the coaches worked him out when he was here and got the right vibe from him .
For those who are double checking his film - would feel comfortable saying that the staff did a deep dive into him also and feel he can be an asset
