Decent crowd today, good to see some excitement and energy around the program and new direction. It’s hard to glean too much from today’s practice, but some on the field take away: 1) I liked what I saw from the top two QBs. Duffy and O’Neill threw pretty well on long and short routes. Seemed accurate and nice touches when needed to get completions. 2) Some good flashes from the RBs, looks like a good mix of small speedy guys and more durable backs who can carry it between the tackles. 3) I like our WRs, tall and fast, can go up and get balls and seemed to have pretty good hands. Some drops today but by and large they seemed to have some potential. 4) offense seemed to have more going than defense, but I did leave early so maybe others have more on this?
Thoughts?

It's impossible for me to judge how good the team is from watching the players scrimmage against each other. If one side has a great play you wonder if maybe the other side just isn't any good. That's the thing I don't like about scrimmages.
That said, my son and I had a great time. It was good to see the team on the field. There were some great throws and catches. There were great runs. The defense made some great plays as well.
No great demonstration of AztecFast that I could see. But that wasn't really surprising. I really enjoyed the day. It only made me more anxious for the season to begin. The give away jerseys are very nice, too.

Forgot to mention: The speed of the offense, between plays. Much faster than years past and in line with other offense have been doing. I didn’t get out my stop watch but it seemed like less than 10 seconds from play to play. It’ll be interesting to see how defenses respond and how it goes in real game situations.

Were the give away jerseys the same black with red calendar jerseys they’ve given away in the past?

I couldn't make it to those games. But they probably are the same. Black jersey, red number 1, and Aztec calendar sleeves. Very much like the actual team jersey from what I can see.

It was advertised that the shirts would say AztecFast on them.

I know we didn’t see everyone or everything our team has yesterday at the scrimmage. I liked the receivers and the young quarterbacks, but I do have concerns. Both lines are the smallest I’ve seen since I watched us play Cal State Fullerton about forty years ago, nobody is close to Rashad Penny in the backfield, and I fear we will see our qb’s go through a meat grinder next year. The fact that most of our opponents are falling behind in talent as much as we are will help, but I don’t see us doing better than just becoming a pipeline for the money schools in the future. I hope I’m wrong.

Thought the O n D were vanilla (as predicted), but did go 11 vs 11, so hard to gleen much. Seemed to me, Duffy the better QB, Lucky Sutton the better RB? Really couldn't judge O n D lines as a few projected starters didn't play and not a lot of blitzing/pressure? WR have way better hands than last season, but not sure about getting separation? Once again a few WR's out. DB'S seemed to cover? As for tempo, they lined up fast, but seemed the time getting play in was so-so? There were some great drills( and variations of of some) before scrimmage that had not seen before. With 3 or 4 different drills going on at same time, fun to watch. Over all a good experience. Now, on to a few other subjects. It may be just me, but I can't hear/understand much announcements on the sound system? They interviewed Lewis on the field a couple times during breaks, and he is so hyped and loud, couldn't understand much of what he said? Did pick up one thing he said when asked "what he wanted to see?" Said, "wanna see the guys in green, throw it to the guys in black". It was hot in the sun, and kinda cool in the shade. They have a few tables/with umbrellas(way more than last season), but they will be crowded in Sept n Oct! While alternating between sun n shade, and with time to look around, thought about canopies! Not over the field or stands, but a couple open areas. One was they open space between the southeast scoreboard and the Piers. There are numerous standards n palms trees to string a/some canopies were there has been a lot of traffic n standing room. A other few spots on north end although didn’t check those areas, as I always try to sit with my back to the sun. And the one constant thing that always is a pet peeve with me at SDSU events, is that no matter who you talk/ask, nobody knows anything!!! Have at it!

It was advertised that the shirts would say AztecFast on them. Not sure what ads you saw, but the promotions I read said "replica jerseys," which is what we got. The promotions I read also said that new AztecFast gear would be available in the team store at SnapDragon. Maybe that's what you saw and misunderstood what they meant.

I knew I couldn't go so I didn't read it closely.

Team store was closed...they had a sign redirecting everyone to the NE corner gear shack. Where were they giving out jerseys? We got there at like 1:15 and there was nothing but an NIL table at the gate...

I saw many people walking back to their cars with jerseys in their hand well before 1 PM. So several people went just for the shirts.

When I finally found out where they were being distributed, it was nothing, but the pop up.

With 5,500 tickets given out (about 3,000 seemed to have made it to the stadium), gates opening at 12:00, scrimmage starting at 1:00, I'm not surprised that there were no jerseys available at 1:15. My son and I were both there well before 12:00 and had no problems getting our jerseys in our choice of size.
Sorry to hear you were too late.
