I was there also. It said in the article that Davis was a Gamer. Thatβs exactly what we need in a quarterback today.

I was there. Sitting in the view section 35 I think. It was bombs away and poor FSU had no idea what hit them.

I was there. That game still represents the high point of Aztec football. Hopefully Coach Lewis can change that.

I was there, of course. I rank it as one of two "perfect" games I've ever seen the Aztecs play. The other being the 36-0 win over North Dakota State in 1966 which gave us our first College Division Football Championship. The game that year at San Jose State which we won 25- might have been on that list if I'd seen the game.
The only other games that might rank a perfect or at least very near perfect game award would be the 68-7 win against Southern Mississippi in 1968 right after they had barely lost to Alabama and the 1969 win against New Mexico State 70-21 where Dennis Shaw and Tim Delany set national touchdown passing and receiving records.

Now as I think about it I'm officially raising the Southern Mississippi and the New Mexico State games to the list of the only perfect games I've seen the Aztecs play in my 60+ seasons. Southern Mississippi because of the quality of the opponent (Southern Mississippi was very good in those days) and the way we completely destroyed them that night. New Mexico State because of the extraordinary exhibition of an offensive passing game. Nine touchdown passes by Dennis Shaw and 6 touchdown receptions by Tim Delany. For those not familiar with the San Jose State game I mentioned, here is a link to the Sports Illustrated article published after the game. The SI writer was at the game to do a big article on the San Jose State quarterback. SI Link

I was there. It was my fourth and final year in the Marching Aztecs. I always wanted to do a road trip to a bowl game with the band. We finished 10-1 and were ranked 16th in 1977 but still didn't get an invite. That year and 1975, the year of the Arizona loss, were the closest I got. Kind of sobering when people I went to school with pass away. The win over Florida State was a great game. The Marching Aztecs did our one and only road trip in my four years a couple weeks later when we went to San Jose State. A good way to close out my four years with the band. Memories.

I wasn't at the Florida State game but I did attend the North Dakota State and Southern Mississippi games. The offense against NDSU wasn't quite as memorable as it was against Southern Mississippi. But the meaning of that win against North Dakota State was tremendous for all of us. We had arrived!
