I can't imagine him coming here but it would be a perfect fit. We seem to have a great connection with African players. Maybe AG can work some magic.
I don't know what his citizen status is which is important. If you're not a US citizen then you can't receive NIL funds, or it's at least very limited.

And as cynical as this might be... to me, it strongly suggests that schools like SDSU with NIL programs that fall short of the Arizonas, Arkansas, etc. of the world -- I'd say that SDSU should target international players (HS or transfer) because we can compete on more equal footing (until the NCAA NIL rules get changed... which, TBH, would be fair).

On its face, the rule seems unfair. I can't imagine it's good for team camaraderie. If Ballo isn't a US citizen, and NIL is inconsequential, SDSU would seem like a great fit. If he wants to to remain in the west and be surrounded by other African players and a coach, he could really showcase his skills at SDSU. I see he's already listed as the number two overall available transfer on ON3.

As far as team dynamics, it's not SDSU being unfair, so I don't think that's an issue. Absolutely I think the rule needs to be changed to allow at least something for int'l players, but it's an "advantage" for the schools outside the top 20 programs in terms of NIL $$$.

UCLA tried that last year and it didn't go so well...

You say that as if the P5 schools would actually follow the rules and NOT spread a little under-the-table love to the international players. (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

It would be a little like a tit-for-tat exchange since they got KJ from us last year. Maybe KJ could talk us up. But the question is would Dutch really want him. There might be a story behind why he is one the move?

There might be a story behind why he is one the move? Yeah, I'm wondering why he decided to hit the portal away from Arizona if NIL is not an issue. Then again, as has been mentioned, that doesn't stop the under the table cash that can exchange hands, unfortunately.

Looks like he has French citizenship.
Also, I'm not sure it's unfair or not that foreign citizens aren't eligible for NIL funds. I'm leaning towards it being fine as is as foreigners can't come to the US and work unless they have special visa, etc. Do student athletes have to get these same visas? If NIL funds come into play, then they should have to get work visas allowing them to make money and they who is going to be sponsoring them? The school knowing a kid can leave at anytime due to the easy transfer rules? I think the kids should be happy to be getting a free education in the US. Then again, I think the whole NIL thing is completely off-track...

(wink, wink, nudge, nudge) Considering that (I believe) it would be a violation of Federal law (not "NCAA law") to skirt around legalities of paying international players... yeah, actually I doubt there's a whole lot of nefarious under the table action happening here. Look at how much this is being discussed in industry circles... if the big P5 programs could easily side-step these restrictions, it wouldn't be such a prominent issue. example: www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39882011/purdue-zach-edey-missing-profits-due-us-nil-law

It’s not the NCAA that is limiting them, it’s the USA immigration laws limiting employment if you’re here on a student visa.

Important to call out that international players can still get paid, just not for work done in the US. Edey, for example, is Canadian, and can "work" and do advertisments and stuff in Canada. I'm not really sure how that works for players where schools just divide the NIL money equally, but I imagine that they can't get that revenue split.
So, being on a student visa doesn't mean you can't make ANY money at all. But you're definitely limited compared to someone with US Citizenship.

The question is … why is he in the portal?
If he can’t leave for (more) money, why leave and, therefore, what is he looking for.
I have to imagine we’ve already reached out. Get him in ASAP for a visit. He’d start for sure, show him all the video of Ledee and how he could fill that role.
I saw him live in Maui last season against us, was super impressed. He’s a beast inside. If we could somehow land him, our prognosis for next season goes up dramatically.
Cmon Dutch, Cmon AG… go get er done!!
GO AZTECS!!!

Yeah, I asked this same question earlier in this thread. It's not as if he's been in a non power 5 Conference, and wants to go there. He's at friggin Arizona. A powerhouse. Inquiring minds want to know!!! It would obviously be EPIC if we could get him.
