Numbers from the 2022-2023 football season are in and Tony Altimore has posted a list of the public schools game day revenues. Looks like Snapdragon is paying off financially, but would the team be better off with more fans and lower ticket prices?

But that's 'revenue per fan' which is a really weird metric. You're "penalized" in that metric for higher attendance. To score high on this, you need strong baseline revenue & a high portion of income from high-priced tickets & such (luxury boxes where appropriate).
I think that's why SDSU looks so good in football... strong base of revenue, but poor attendance.

How can Nevada be making 2.7 million per home game? They averaged ~9,000 fans per game. That means the average fan is paying $300 in parking/tickets/concessions per person? A family of 4 is spending, on average, $1,200 to see Nevada play? That number doesn't make any sense. 9,000 at $40 is $360K per game.

I thought the $41.5 represented millions in revenue, not revenue per fan per game.

Sportico says that the Athletic department has revenue of $103M and expenses of $96M. We are now the 51st largest athletic department in the US?

The numbers are fairly impressive.
Overall Revenue $103M #1 in the MW by $22M and $40M higher than the average. #51 in the US. Football Revenue $31M #1 in the MW by $3M and $15M higher than the average. #53 in the US. Basketball Revenue $14M #1 in the MW by $7M and $10M higher than the average. #36 in the US.
Pretty crazy numbers.

I also think the ticket prices for Aztecs are off in the charts because State charges for tickets and an associated donation. The donation piece is not taken into consideration.
It's neither here nor there, it is still pretty good directional information.

$20.07 per fan per game seems pretty low for SDSU... the footnotes suggest that student attendance is included in the count, so I assume the ~2,500 students that don't provide ticket revenue nor game day parking is pulling that dollar amount down?

State has two components to their ticket pricing, the ticket and the donation. The ticket revenue was $3.9M donations for basketball was $5.5M. There is no clean way to know what portion of the donations part of the tickets was, but it illustrates the point.

The football revenue generation per fan number is extremely low since each ticket if figured at a total of $175 per season and divided by 6 games. Then you add in all the students in attendance that pay zero (unless they somehow have a number for the fees they paid to get the free seat) and it gets watered down more. Love to see the real number figured in with the mandatory donation. Heck parking is $40 if you buy day of game.

No issues with our MBB, but we need our football team to become competitive before those kind of teams come here. Nobody wants to pay to watch an embarrassment.
