Dutcher is actively checking out the Transfer Portal - As of today there are not any official Aztecs leaving and there are no names that Dutcher will say that SDSU is looking at
Dutcher is looking to replace Coach Acker - He has had chats with numerous people - some former Aztec coaches - also some other Assistant Coaches some former HC - Some current HC's this is a good place to coach and applicants know it
Tony Bland - likely to go to U of Washington
Jay Morris - likely to with USC Coach to SMU
Other familiar names Coaches Hutson- Tim Shelton- Sam Scholl
Want a coach who can do it all Coach - Develop players - Help Recruit
Coach does not have to be former SDSU coach or player
Final 4 Luncheon - Dutcher was informed that since he made it to the Final 4 last season -he is now eligible to attend The Final 4 Coaches Lunches during the Final 4 weekend - and receive The Groups Jacket - it will be presented to him by former Coach Fisher at the event
In addition at the weekend event Keshad will be involved in the slam dunk contest - there is also a Three Point shooting event for both men and women

I want a coach from outside the program that can bring a new wrinkle to the offense, a different perspective on recruiting and someone that will help advance the program. Any of the past coaches would be great but sometimes to grow you must go with something new.

Bland and Morris on to other jobs. For whatever reason, I just haven't gotten the vibe from anyone's comments that Hutson is a super strong candidate to return. Don't know why that is but just sorta seems to be the case. That would leave Tim Shelton and Sam Scholl, assuming Marvin Menzies and Aerick Sanders aren't options (and I haven't heard anything about them).
At this point, I would guess it's either Sam Scholl returning or an outside candidate. And I probably lean more toward the outside candidate I'd say, as Dutch said we've had great success hiring new blood.

Marvin, Aerick, and Sam all are 'hybrids' however... folks how *have* previously spent time at SDSU, but have also spent a significant portion of their coaching career away from SDSU. So potentially a little 'best of both worlds' from any of them, should Dutch want to go that route.

Dave V runs the defense, hopefully, we can get an offensive minded AHC. |

There are probably going to be several of them that will end up bummed if not selected. Dutcher will ABSOLUTELY make the right decision, but I feel for him as I know he will have to tell several that he supports and truly cares about that he’s going with someone else. |

As noted Dutcher and the staff trying to work the transfer portal - no matter who comes back or who leaves
But the key area for SDSU is getting a quality 5 but as we saw this past year not that easy

correct Coach Lester seems to be the lead recruiter and Acker more of the OC or development
Per Dutcher - he would expect to have every coach assist in the recruiting
For those in the know - Now being the Transfer Portal time -
A player puts their name in the Portal - then does Dutcher get the list from his assistants and decides who he thinks the Aztecs should ask if a player is interested in SDSU ? or how do they make decisions on who to respond to ?
If a player responds to SDSU 's saying they might be interested - does an assistant do a deep dive into the player or try to find out information from other coaches or players about him - besides the Stats that are available - watch game film ?

Luster is already a good recruiter and can easy take the head recruiter job. He was the main guy for the the transfer portal players. |

We need someone to help with the offense. Acker was a good recruiter and he helped improve the offense, but it needs a bit more work. If Luster fills that description, then great.

He has a very nice resume as a recruiter and in player development. However, do we know whether he's equally good at running an offense? For a change it needs to be as good or better than our defense. |

as Zeigler reported the other day Dutcher is at the Final 4 this weekend - to be welcomed into the Final 4 Coaches group and will receive his Blazer from another Final 4 HC - Fisher
think the other Aztec coaches and other school's coaches are there also
maybe a chance for Dutcher to set up some interesting OOC games ? and maybe get some information about some players in the Transfer Portal ?
