theathletic.com/5383639/2024/04/03/college-football-super-league-cst-realignment/What amazes me is that people don’t know why college football became popular and why it’s not as popular as the NFL. The NFL is almost a team less league where fan I twrest is driven by fantasy football. You watch players instead of teams. The NGl is a broad product. It’s why the league is careening towards glorified touch football. I do not like it, but it has made the NFL and their owners very wealthy ten times over. College football is not private enterprise, it’s filled with greed for certain, but the motives are not all the same. A super league managed in rhe NFL style will ultimately place the Universities in very tough spots. Are they really going to demote Indiana or Wake or Illinois or Duke football? Are they going to embrace gambling? These are Universities who by and large answer to the State’s they serve. What really perplexes me is the notion that having a super league makes all the problems go away. How, you still have Labor, Title IX, university senate’s, etc. We shall see what transpires, but I predict that the conferences will remain separate negotiators these at the University level. Interesting times indeed.
