University of the Pacific has made a very interesting hire and fortunately for the Aztecs it is NOT Jay Dee Luster. He is Dave Smart who is a legendary coach from Canada. He was an associate at Texas Tech this past season after winning several championships north of the border. Will be very interesting how this works out for UOP which has been down the last few years after Damon Stoudamire left the program. They also recently hired a new young AD who is hopefully going to bring success to my alma mater.

so the obvious question - what is their NIL budget
the Zags just signed a good transfer from Pepperdine so expect a good team from them
Will the new coach there be able to bring in any of the better Canadian players
Would this have been a good fit for Coach Lester ?

JayDee is very well respected for his time at UOP. The new AD I believe is trying to start an NIL program which is pretty nonexistent right now. No doubt the AD is thinking that the new coach will bring some Canadian players to Stockton. Will be interesting to see. Luster is earning a very nice salary here at SDSU and with Acker leaving will move up the chain of command I would assume. Pacific would have been risky if he had been offered the job because the conference is tough and lack of fan support at UOP. Would have been similar to Hut at Fresno which turned out to be a snake pit.

Good hire, I had forgotten they still play basketball.
Stockton isn't exactly Paris either.

Good hire, I had forgotten they still play basketball. Stockton isn't exactly Paris either. Yes, I agree this seems like a great hire. He seems outstanding from everything I read about him. While Stockton isn't Paris, the Pacific campus is gorgeous and because of its small size it is a great university to attend. While I attended UOP the president of the fraternity on our right, SAE was Pete Carroll and on our left a leader was Scott Boras. Two pretty successful frat boys I think it's safe to say.

Good hire, I had forgotten they still play basketball. Stockton isn't exactly Paris either. Paris isn’t really that great of a place. So, if you were trying to put down UOP and Stockton, you could have done a better job. A much better job. Btw, the UOP campus is beautiful and they used to have a very strong basketball program and had some great runs. Stockton isn’t the best city. Has its problems but isn’t nearly as bad as outsiders make it out to be.

Before moving to Nevada, my regular golf buddy was a guy that spent his entire pre-college life growing up in Stockton. He had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING nice to say about Stockton (except for the University). But I guess Stockton will always have the Diaz brothers (which might actually be a compliment).

"Paris isn't really that great of a place." In the running for one of the dumbest takes of the year. Man, I'd give one of my digits right now to be sitting at this boulangerie I visited last December in the 10th Arrondissement enjoying a latte with an escargot chocolat et pistache (chocolate and pistachio roll).

I am srprised that the WCC is not at the level of the Big East. These are small monied Universities mostly in some big metros.
San Francisco San Diego LA Portland
USF was a beast in 50's, 60's, and 70's. The Zags from 200's and now SMC. They have the resources to be a lighter version of the Big East.

I think you just marked yourself as the bozo by calling Stockton part of the East Bay. Also, by having to name call to "attempt" to get your point across lol.

Good hire, I had forgotten they still play basketball. Stockton isn't exactly Paris either. Stockton appears on top 10 lists of most economically depressed blighted cities next to Gary Indiana and Newark New Jersey.
