Per UT and new DC Schmidt - SDSU defensive players are just starting to make the transition from the 3-3-5 to the 4-2-5 . Many starters are gone and there are some new players coming in including some transfers
2 past starters remain with the team . DT T.Alualu(sp) and LB Moon - Per Moon - Per Moon - the front 4 will be asked to control the LOS - while the LB's then fill the gaps -so might not be as much blitzing by the LB's
Some new additions from the Portal on the front 6: are two DT's one from Marshall and one from Richmond - LB's also have 2 LB's coming in
Coach Schmidt was saying way too early to make any decisions on how the pieces will come together as a unit

Bit of a non-story. As has been cited several times, these two defensive schemes are VERY similar in practice.

correct in addition there are only 2 starters back from last season's DL and LB's
It is one thing to say the team will play a 4-2-5 defense
But now at Spring Practices the Coaches can actually see what kind of talent/players they have to work with and if they have players to make it work after losing a good amount of players and thusly bringing transfers and reserves for a defense that had some problems last season
As with most teams it is the DL that is key for the Defense and the OL for the offense - they set the tone
