I've been following the program since Coach Dietz and have to say, the start of this season may be one of the lowest in my memory (which, granted, isn't all that great).
Aztecs lose to Hawaii 16-5 Friday night. Hawaii is 10-6 and in the Big West Conference. Aztecs were up 4-0 until the bottom of the 5th when the wheels fell off:
Walk, walk, infield bunt single, (new pitcher), hit by pitch, hit by pitch, single, strike out, dropped fly ball LF, single, fielder's choice, (new pitcher), error by 1B, walk, hit by pitch, (new pitcher), fly out. 8 runs, 3 hits, 2 errors. For the game, 11 walks, 6 hit batters.
Hope they figure out how to pitch by tonight, also field the ball.

We should have tshirts made.
Wheels off.
It’s been a pretty bad season, not many things have gone right.

Speaking of MWC baseball, UNLV had an inside-the-park homer to take the lead and won over Reno after the Reno right fielder let the ball roll all the way to the outfield wall. Turning to Aztecs softball, they won a 13-inning marathon 5-1 over Fresno State with 4 runs in the top of the 13th inning. Very classy of Fresno to let the Aztecs watch the honoring of 2 Fresno State legends, a player retired jersey and coach honored on their Ring of Honor from their NCAA Championship. Props to the Fresno 2nd basemen who made an outstanding catch off an Aztecs batter. Back to baseball, the Hawaii game was not shown on the MWC Broadcast page. Old-timers may remember the 1986 WAC championship game that SDSU won over Hawaii and I stormed the field from Ragger's Rail that was packed for free. Now, no fans are allowed there. Hawaii was nationally ranked that year and lost to LMU in the NCAA west regional final. SDSU lost to eventual champ Arizona 26-5 and then Texas Pan American University 10-6 now University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in the NCAA tournament to end that season.

So how many years did our "illustrious" AD Wicker sign Cole for? After Hoke and now this guy, I'm a bit apprehensive about Lewis too.

Aztecs lose Saturday night 16-0. 15 earned runs; 12 walks. Colby Turner was 2-4.
I can't seem to find the length of Cole's contract. Aztecs did not conduct a nationwide search.

So, I followed the final few innings of Sunday's game waiting for basketball to start.
Aztecs led 5-1 after 7. Cardenas pitching a gem for 7 innings. 1 run on 2 hits. Even though his pitch count was 113, he started the 8th, and walked the first two batters. Relieved by Canavan who walked the next batter. Araiza to pitch, ground ball to SS, we fail to turn the DP, instead get one out and everyone moves up on a throwing error by 2B. Fielders choice for the third run, and end inning at 5-4 Aztecs.
Bottom of 9, Hawaii single and move to second on another error, RBI single to tie the score.
Extra innings Araiza still pitching. Go to the bottom of 10. Walk, single, intentional walk to load the bases and a single to RF and Hawaii walks it off. Shame for Cardenas. Errors and walks again lead to another defeat. Bethancourt 2-4 with 4 RBI's.
Aztecs are 6-16.
Happily the BB team is playing well.
