Like I tweeted to Chris Spiering, the MW seedings are awful except for ours, the matchups are pretty decent and the fact that all six teams got in is great. Hoping to see some wins, and for the Aztecs to not have an early tip.

Odds per Fanduel: SDSU -7.5 vs UAB BSU +2.5 vs Colorado CSU -1.5 vs UVA Reno -1.5 vs Dayton UNM -2.5 vs Clemson USU +3.5 vs TCU This is cumulative wins SDSU 5 Seed = 1.15 wins in the tournament USU 8 Seed = 0.73 wins in the tournament NEVADA = .612 wins in the tournament BSU 10 seed = 1.12 wins in the tournament (.612 excluding the play in game) CSU 10 seed = 1.12 wins in the tournament (.612 excluding the play in game) UNM 11 seed = .67 wins in the tournament SDSU 5 Seed = R1 win odds is 64% USU 8 Seed = R1 win odds is 49% (That's right, the 9 seed wins 51% of the time) RENO 10 Seed = R1 win odds 39% BSU/CSU win odds will be 39% if they win the play in games. UNM 11 seed = R1 win odds of 39% The odds makers surprised me with the UNM and Nevada wins and the spread margin for State.

Dayton is a #7, Nevada is a #10 yet favored. I think Nevada can actually win playing in elevation at Salt Lake which is lower than Reno's. I know NM is hot right now but I've watched Clemson a few times, they have good shooters and Girard shoots 43% from three. NM is one & done.

Not surprised that we got 6 in, and not surprised that the other 5 seeds aren’t great. The matchups aren’t terrible, however, there’s a good chance for our teams to advance if they don’t tighten up and forget how to play.
I feel that our seed showed a lot of respect for the program, we weren’t torching it going into selection Sunday, but still managed a solid seed. We “should” beat UAB, and then Auburn is a really interesting matchup for us, and absolutely winnable if we play well. UCONN is a juggernaut…but so was Alabama last year…
Love this time of year.

I think the Aztecs, Lobos and Boise all win their first game. Not sure how/why Nevada is favored although they got really good guard play to offset the Dayton All-American front-court guy. I think TCU pounds Utah State bad and Virginia's defense is just too much for Colorado State.

It's also possible we get the last game and a 7:10 tip.

Auburn did lose 7 games this year but they were all to big-time teams except one. They lost to Baylor, Alabama, Mississippi State, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee. They also got beaten by Appalachian State (16-2), who finished 27-6 and beat James Madison (15-3) by one game in their conference. I think they got screwed getting a #4 seed. They win the SEC Tournament and came in 2nd for the season in probably the 2nd best conference in D-1. They should definitely be higher than Creighton.

On the East Coast, no. On the West Coast, yes. Wasn't last years game a 2PM local start time? The eaarliest East Coast games start around noon local time, not 10:45 in the morning.

Our 10:45am game is a "lets-take-off-work-early-today-and-watch-March-Madness" kind of game for the rest of the country.

Seems like it would have made more sense to give us the 4:30 PT game, but they gave it to Alabama/Charleston. At least we got the preferred location

Looking past Friday (I know!) and potential Sunday matchups -- I will venture the road less traveled because I've been watching it for years: Yale.
The Yale Bulldogs. Do not be surprised. Knowling, Poulakidas, Mbeng, and most of all this year, Wolf. These guys are a problem. Before you blow them off as "just Ivy", ask Dutch how that went last time they played an Ivy team (at Viejas, just to underscore the point). The first two are Jimmer-esque in their range, Mbang can hit from outside, plus Mbeng was Ivy D player of the year. And Wolf, can do everything -- 7-feet worth of it. 3-point range with full-court handles and a paint presence. He is an NBA-lock and only a soph (such labels still mean something in that conference).
The one consistent negative is that, like us, they can go soft down the stretch. They may have fixed that today with their wild last 5 minutes to take Ivy Madness. Also, I think play at the forward positions is where SDSU would have a distinct advantage: ie, there is nothing close to a Jaedon LeDee. This is their 5th go at it in the last several years. They are never an easy-out, and indeed took out Baylor in 2017. That's the quality of Ivy League hoops these days. It's far removed from Princeton running nothing but backdoor cuts. They've got next-level athletes in the upper-half of the conference and if you get through it, there's a real good chance you will be successful. Just ask Sweet 16 Princeton from last season. You're welcome for the scout.

In keeping with the odds thread, I will post this here. In addition to the NCAAT play-in games tonight, there are also NIT and CBI games. UCSD was not eligible to play in their conference tournament since they haven't been D-1 for long enough (not eligible to play in NCAAT, as well). But they can play in the CBI. They are matched tonight against 12-18 Chicago State, which is only a few years removed from being one of the worst teams in men's CBB. Now, here's the weird thing: Chicago State is a 12.5 point favorite according to ESPN, even though their matchup predictor heavily favors the Tritons. This is really odd: www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401641083/uc-san-diego-chicago-st

The NIT has about 30 pretty good teams this year. They’re the kind you would have been happy to schedule for OOC. Would love to see UNLV go on a run.
