Selection committee member said reason for low MWC seeds was weak non-conference schedules. Fact that Aztecs had a strong non-conference schedule kept us at a 5. Makes you wonder about MWC plan to go to a 20 game conference schedule and limit out of conference options.

That means we're forced to play all Quad 1 teams in our now reduced OOC schedule, so we get screwed. We don't have any problems scheduling good teams since they see us as a measuring stick. OTOH, who'd want to play the goats when they don't have to? We are being indirectly ostracized for that very reason. Gawd, we better be part of the P2 expansion down the road. |

Dutch wanted to play in Spokane because of time zone and most importantly NO high elevation of SLC. Someone said the game is at 9:00 which hopefully is wrong on Friday. I'm hoping it is 9:00 eastern TZ. Interesting possible match up vs our friend Baker Mazara in Round 2.

20 game schedule is terrible for us. I wonder if the coaches force a reconsideration in the (very) near future. With 6 teams getting in this year, that's should be at least 6 votes against the 20-game schedule. UNLV always schedules 5 or 6 good teams in their OOC too. That's 7 votes against unless the idiot school Presidents have a Kumbaya meeting and hold hands to all vote together. |

UAB's defense is horrific. The pace of this game will be fascinating - Part of me hopes Dutch speeds things up to try and get some easy points in transition, but I don't think UAB wants any part of a halfcourt grind. Blazers gave up 94 to Rice, 85 to UNC-Asheville, 82 to Alabama A&M, 87 to Arkansas State...
Schematics will be important in this one.

If SDSU played in SLC, they would be more adapted to the elevation than the two teams from Alabama, UAB-Birmingham & Auburn-Plains of Alabama. Time zone in SLC is only one hour ahead of PST. Spokane is 550 miles further to SD than from SLC. |

Watching UAB-South Florida from yesterday. They’re kinda rock-fighty on offense and a little scattered and slow to react on D. Not overly tall but definitely physical.

Get a flight to Pasco, rent a car & drive 2 hours to Spokanus. You could book a room in Spokanus. If it snows this week the pass could be a pain in the ass.

Last time I went to Spokane for the opening rounds the games were relatively late. Couldn't get a flight home Sunday night and had to stay an extra night. Not a guarantee, but a FYI Just booked a a 7 a.m. direct flight on Alaska for Monday morning. I hear Sunday nights in Spokane are a hoot. Yup, you are right. Spokane is second only to Vegas on Sunday nights.  |

Credit to those that insisted we were nothing worse than a 5 seed.....I thought for sure, 6 or 7....Likely 7! I'm gladly eating crow tonight! Go Aztecs! They were a 5 win or lose the title game, essentially. Probably but I think we would’ve moved to the top of the 5 seeds and been moved to an easier region. |
