Total deal is Wilson, Iriarte, Thorpe and Zavala.
Easy win for the Padres on the surface.

another bad Prellar trade, and i will call this one out too. not a great Pitcher, stat stuffer with his strike outs. AJ gave up way to much again, this is a guy you wouldnt trust with your life savings. Thorpe if put in the rotation would probably do better than Cease. Wilson, a great arm in the bullpen, Zavala and Iriarte (shows promise). Padres do not get better where they absolutely suck...clutch hitting.
this man is the Eric Hosmer's of pitching, except when i look at it, at least Hosmer had avg stats, Cease's body of work is all around Clevi-core (medicore at best) wouldnt even have him on my fantasy team.

I like it. As much as we need more bats, you can never have enough pitching, and quality pitching at that.

Is this satire? last part is, though i am falling in love with the Clevi-core part i think. that about sums up this dude's body of work to a T.

I mean, I don't think you could be more wrong if you tried, personally. you said the same thing a few years ago when i bashed the trade for Trammel and the rest from Seattle, and you said the same sort of thing when i bashed the trade for Clevinger. i hope you right am i dead wrong. btw i call them like i see them, when the Snell trade went down, i didnt say a thing because of what i thought of Snell as a player. ditto for Dury. i even thought Grisham was a nice pickup. but when i see blatantly bad trades go down i will say something. i was reserved (mostly for the Soto deal), i didnt think he was a top 3 player, but he met a need at the time (left handed hitter w/power) Cease is a guy who throws hard, and is an injury risk. has thrown alot of innings, could be time to go into the shop for awhile very soon. I called out Clevs injuries, and while i dont want to jinx him, i wouldnt be surprised. hopefully we can get something good for him at the trade deadline while he is useful.

Conflating two ideas here: Good process doesn't always equal excellent results. The Clevinger deal was good process, injuries suck. Part of the game. This deal lets you keep Snelling and Lesko, which is huge. Cease will get a bump from the ballpark switch and a massive upgrade in infield defense. This deal moved the Padres up five spots in the projected starting pitching ranks.

This deal moved the Padres up five spots in the projected starting pitching ranks. as it should! cause now instead of 3 major league starters you have 4. (never mind my opinion of his abilities)

Cease is a proven starter, he will do well in pitcher friendly Petco Park.

That's only a little part of it, it's just a bit more complicated. But let's talk about Cease... they will do a better job of controlling his innings and hopefully his velo creeps back up. but the amount of innings, as hard as he throws. its something to think about. i view him as a 1 year rental before they try and trade him.

He averages nearly 96 on the fastball last year. He'll be a great stabilizer in the rotation and help King's injury history.

Keeping the top five guys in the farm is a big deal here.
