I think we will be in a bowl this year for the first time since 1998. I think if we stay healthy and with a little luck we can go 7-5 and worst case 6-6.

I think that 6 and 6 is the low end of where we end up.

I think 6-6 is doable but this is the Aztecs so I am going with 5-7

Don't know about the final record. Do know we won't give up big leads in the 4th quarter.

I think we end up 6-6. I don't think 6-6 teams should get to go to a bowl.
Still, 6-6 would be an improvement, and a non losing season.

I felt compelled to vote "no." Sad, isn't it? But I'm one who made a strong case that the Aztecs would win 7 games in Long's first year! Figure that one out!
We all want to see significant improvement this year, and I think we will. Let's put it this way; we may not yet have enough talent to reach 7 wins, but we should have enough to avoid embarrassing melt-downs such as the two that made the end of last season very disappointing.
A huge opportunity to show the community that Aztec football was on the mend evaporated with the two 4th quarter losses in '09. That puts even more pressure on Hoke and company to do more than stumble (which has been SOP for a decade or more) in '10.
For the Aztecs to reach .500 this year, which would indeed represent a step forward, we will have to see at least one minor upset. And I am not referring to Mizzou. Beating the Tigers in Missouri would be a HUGE upset, and I'm not expecting that. Nor do I expect a win over BYU, TCU, or Utah.
Realistically speaking, reaching 6-6 will require the following:
A) Win three of the four non-conference games on the schedule. B) Win three MWC games.
I'll count UNLV and NMU as probable wins (though it will be interesting to see what Bobby Hauk does with the Rebels.) That means SDSU is going to have to beat one of the following: AFA, CSU, or Wyoming. Since all of those will be decent to good, a victory over one of them will count in my book as a minor upset.
(While I would be delighted by a win over BYU, TCU, or Utah, I must be realistic when assessing our chances against those three.)
I'll say this; while 7 wins may be too much to ask for, 6 should be doable. I'm really, really hoping that we don't fall below .500 again. Fans who think that 5-7 would be okay, or at least an acceptable improvement are not being realistic. 5-7 would mean SEVEN straight losing seasons, and ELEVEN losing seasons out of the last TWELVE (with the 12th at .500 thanks to a non-conference schedule that included two I-AA opponents).
We just HAVE to start showing signs that the program is turning around. If not this year, then next year for sure. Otherwise the hiring of Hoke will start looking questionable. . . or perhaps the general perception will be that the Curse of Montezuma is unbreakable.
With the survival of Qualcomm Stadium in question long term, the program has to be seen as worth saving. As some sage said recently, "Let's get 'er done!"

Too soon to answer. Phil Steele's mag will be on news stands this weekend. After checking out our opponents there, then I'll answer.

Can we win with this young and inexperienced line? Is 1.5 years enough time to master the 3-3-5? Do we have enough horses in the stable? How's our depth?
Things just got REAL didn't it?

gut feeling. 5-7. won't sit well with some, but still a step in the right direction.

5-7 bridesmaids once again... Geeze fowl, don't show to much confidence in the boys. Trust me, I am hoping for 13-0 and I think that we will be improved which is the main goal at this point. But I am a realist. Winable games this year are mostly on the road save for Nichols and Utah st. UNLV at home is always a toss up and a first year coach swings it in our favor. At Wyoming is always tough due to altitude. New Mexico st and New Mexico are winable but again much tougher on the road. We get CSU at home but were kind of lucky vs them last year and they will be better. We get AF too early in the season (as usual) to think that we can pull that one off. I think we still lack the depth and talent to legitimately think we can pull off an upset vs MO, BYU, TCU, and UT. But you never know, the ball has always bounced the other way for us - maybe this year it bounces our way...

I'm going with 6-6 and a pity bowl game. The bowls know Aztec fans are starving for a bowl game and will be happy with any bowl so they'll want us.
