I would venture to bet that he will be pulled after his second time through their lineup. Pitchers like that tend to get in trouble against good offenses third time through the lineup, guys start to sit on pitches, and all of a sudden they open it up with a 4 run inning, etc. Oh, definitely. I should have clarified that what I meant by long relief would be twice through the lineup, which could get end up being a lot innings. That would be nice. Yeah, and honestly using him as a long reliever maybe you don't let the top of their order get a second crack at him. I was thinking in the vein of using an opener for one inning, then putting Perez in for 3-4 innings. You could pull him after the #9 hitter.

That was an epic meltdown. Unfortunate for the Brewsters. Before that, Milwaukee pitching had held NYM to one hitter getting both hits - for 8 innings. Winner took all, and what a way to lose it. They will all have until next spring to play the what if game. From the Roomer Mill … Contraras to the Padres. Gonna get Higgy wit it… The Brewers control Contreras for 3 more years. Trading him makes no sense. His brother, the one nobody wants to pitch to in St. Louis. Maybe they’ll make a Family Deal

I have a feeling that Freeman will be ready for the Padres Series, but maybe not. I was thinking earlier today that Perez would be a good option to use as a long reliever in the right situation. I really like how he keeps people off balance. He doesn't throw hard, so that might actually work against the Dodgers. I would venture to bet that he will be pulled after his second time through their lineup. Pitchers like that tend to get in trouble against good offenses third time through the lineup, guys start to sit on pitches, and all of a sudden they open it up with a 4 run inning, etc. He shouldn't go more than one time through.

Musgrove will not be on the NLDS roster. Not surprising, but bummer nonetheless. You think he's done for the year?

Well, we can end the suspense.
Musgrove will undergo Tommy John surgery. He'll miss all of next season.

He'll have plenty of time now to get in those swings… not to mention a bunch more pancakes.
Really a bummer for him, just when the team is primed to make a quantum leap, too. Hate to see this happen to him. At least he'll be able to stay with the team through whatever happens to them next, and there are still plenty of ways for him to contribute. They just won't likely be the ways he wanted to contribute…

Add a smaller JM patch next to the PS one for the remainder of the playoffs?

Wonder if Joe will drive up the 5 to have Dr. El ReAttache make the reconnection?
He probably hasn't gotten that far in his decision-making process yet, and who knows if he's had a recent steroid shot into that elbow - which could gum things up in terms of scheduling a quick operation depending on how recently a shot like that might've been done.
It's been reported that he had PRP shots, so maybe he decided against the corticosteroids "just in case" - since it also sounded like he was not surprised by the diagnosis and previous tests had suggested that further damage was imminent.
Oh, Joe!
He's young enough to come back - and be just as good, if not better. Maybe they take care of the bone spur at the same time, too.

So, without Musgrove how much harder will it be for the Padres to do what no San Diego major sports team has done? (Win a title.)
Not having him will hurt for sure. Do they have enough pitching without him to legitimately contend, or is this going to be another, "We had a great season, maybe next year," kind of situation?

Yes, we still have 3 aces in Cease, Darvish, King. They can go 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, in a seven game series. Then game 4 is mostly a bullpen game with a few innings out of Perez. Or you have one the the pitchers go 1, 4, 7 (Cease most likely), and the other two each pitch twice in the series.

Matt Strahm is not helping the Philthies today. While the K's can be great, we know which direction things roll when he misses … Mets scored five runs in the 8th. Strahm was involved in four of them, though he only was charged with two.

Arraez is not impressed by Yamamoto. Or Will Smith. Roberts already cussing in the dugout. Profar needs to get with the post season. It's time to break out. Padres score first. MANNY!

Cease is already struggling. 51 PC two outs in the 2nd. No rhythm.
And he just crapped the mound. Could see it coming.
Just went from Ace to AZZZZZtec.
