I agree, unless we win tonight. I say start them again tomorrow and then use the strategy of pulling them if we're getting crushed, or maybe don't start them if the Dodgers are way ahead against the Rockies. The Dodgers game starts at least an hour earlier than the Pads game. Not to beat a dead horse, but you're going to have the same reasoning the next day. It's just ignoring unnecessary risk. And, my opinion is if the Padres win today, and if the Dodgers game early on is a ballgame, you stick with a winning strategy, and the same reasoning as today. Remember, funny things can happen in Colorado. I'm confident that Shildt will be smart about the overall situation. I personally don't think the word "unnecessary" applies in this situation, yet. It's necessary to give it your best up to a point, and my opinion is that it hasn't reached that point, yet. Beating a dead horse.

It's more on Suarez for a few reasons. They adjusted to him, he's not hitting his spots and he doesn't have a good secondary pitch. He's still throwing a 100. But, I do think either Scott or Estrada should close, depending on who's coming up in the ninth inning. I'll take the division. It's a long shot, but like I said, make it day to day, and inning by inning on when to pull the plug.

The guy is still trying to blow it by people down the middle. I think Shildt should make a change, but it's Suarez who's not performing by thinking he doesn't need to work on a good secondary pitch, and thinking he can still simply blow it by people. I hope Suarez wises up real quick like because we can use him right about now. Moving on.

Regression was inevitable when you're that far over your career norms. Simple stuff. He had 26 appearances last season...you're going to nearly triple that by the time this season is over. He's been overused. Plain and simple. His changeup has a 47.5% whiff rate. That's really good. It's just too firm with not enough separation from the fastball at this point. He was never going to duplicate his first half numbers with a strand rate of 92%. A monkey could read the analytics sheet and interpret that. It's 127% on the manager not recognizing a guy who isn't getting the IVB on his fastball that makes it such a devastating pitch for seven or eight weeks now. The movement profile has diminished, along with some plain BABIP regression (from .224 ib the first half) that was likewise inevitable. Unless you've talked to Robert Suarez, that's an insane statement to make.

The 3-16 with RISP stat in this series - so far - is not good.

The 3-16 with RISP stat in this series - so far - is not good. Buehler isn't likely to go deep, so they need to figure it out with some better quality contact. He's scuffling.

Buehler has two swings and misses, both to Fernando in an AB where there were six balls and no strikes. Tatis somehow struck out.

Unless you've talked to Robert Suarez, that's an insane statement to make. It's on Suarez for not doing his job. He's not hitting his spots and he's using his fastball too much, but that's because he doesn't have a secondary pitch that he can rely on. The other teams have figured him out. He's still hitting 100 on the radar gun. He can't adjust because he doesn't have confidence in a secondary pitch, or he'd throw it more. I would be more inclined to say he's been over used if his fast ball speed dipped, but it hasn't, so it's on him for not pitching well. If you're throwing 100, you'll get away with it early in the season, but not late in the season. Simple facts. I was telling myself early in the season that if he doesn't stop throwing it down the middle, he's going to get hurt later in the season unless he has a back up pitch. I saw this many a times on teams with players like that. They start off blowing people away, and then later in the season get hammered. Happens a lot. He was still throwing it down the middle in the early part of the season, but teams have adjusted. Happens all the time. He couldn't adjust to that himself, and that's on him. Where I lay a little blame on Shildt is the fact that at this point he should change closers, and he hasn't yet. Suarez got a little overconfident when he was getting away with blowing people away with fast all's down the middle. That was the worst thing that could have happened to him.

Home plate umps in this series are woefully, consistently, for both teams. But of course, someone always gets hurt worse from a run expectancy standpoint.

It does, however, equal command and release point issues.

Have at it. There should one of those kind of robots mixed in with the rest of us.

Ok, that's when I know, actually I've known for quite some time now, that you're a novice in many things except stats. He was pitching the same early in the season, throwing it down the middle at a 100. The difference is that they adjusted, and he did not. I'll give you the stat department, but in the future strive to be more well rounded. It will serve you well. Over and out Robot Stat Ryan.

You're talking about Suarez being lazy, not working on a secondary pitch, being overconfident....none of those things are provable. You're guessing. And it's not even true.

To answer your question, no, I'm not guessing. You're guessing that I'm guessing because you don't know anything more than stats it seems and you haven't talked to people in the know that's on the team. I never said that he was lazy, you're putting words in my mouth. I'm saying that he's so enamored with his fastball and the early success he had with it, he still thinks he can just blow it by people, even with two strikes. I'm not speculating. I've heard this, and on top of it, it's there for all to see. It's not rocket science for most.
