A fan of his energy. His talk about a goal being to bring some excitement back to the program are two things I felt were deficiencies that needed to be addressed and it looks like those corrections may be in motion. Looks like I am keeping my season tix as of now. Will be interesting to see how he fills the staff out. Hope we aren't being stingy with the wallet. This program can easily pay for itself if we invest in it with good salaries for good coaches.

Ok, I'm ALSO fired up!!!
I can almost guarantee our offense will be elite at some point, but I'm still worried about the D. Hopefully, he hires the right guy and we can have a well balanced team.

He was so knowledgeable of the history that lay before him… that I’ll be disappointed if come 8-9 months from now we don’t hear reports of him walking around campus handing out tickets

the new HC has a quick hot lava mess on the Mesa with all the departures seems the OL has been heading out pretty quickly

My prediction: He will be here in San Diego for only 2-4 years.
He will get poached by USC or Texas A&M after the Aztecs have some brilliant success.

Nah, we should just go ahead and forfeit all of our 2024 games and focus on the 2025 season instead.

Oldie Out

Post by standiego on Nov 30, 2023 10:35:27 GMT -8
was only saying that a key part of any offense is the OL and it sure seems that numerous guys are looking to leave - not saying it is his fault or that all of them are great players But it is not easy finding quality OL - Sean should know coming from Colorado - who has had a bad OL for the last few years as had SDSU
Like the thought of Up Tempo offense but with Any offense you need OL
so SDSU OL is a Hot Lava Mess that will need to be resolved for any offense to work effectively
Colorado did not have good OL but did have a quality QB and WR - both recruited by Prime but even he was not able or forgot to bring in quality OL
So the OL coach hire is quite important as is the DL coach the two areas that need the most help then toss in QB
while there will be numerous guys in the Portal getting them to SDSU who has not had the best reputation for offense - does Sean 's message work for possible transfers we will find out as he makes the effort to get transfers

Losing Bennett sucks, and BCD to a lesser extent. We won't miss Mirabella. But that's the norm across most teams, especially G5's and especially after a coaching change. Doesn't make it a "hot lava mess" by any means, unless you're describing 70% of college football teams as "hot lava messes"? Maseuli (C), Azzopardi (T), Jones (T), Abdullah (G) & Murao (G) is a decent starting point, and there are probably a few youngsters who could push them for a spot right now, never mind what we'll land in the portal.

Just saying the obvious the OL had numerous problems last season and If Sean is trying to have a decent offense - besides the QB - is the OL - and that has been a mess - no matter how good of an offensive plan you have - not much gets done if the OL can not perform as needed
Thought Kyle Turley had applied to be HC - would he be a decent addition as the OL coach if he actually would do it ?

The media had breakout sessions with the coach after the press conference, so they knew they'd have the opportunity to ask more direct questions then. He's also going to be on the radio (Jon & Jim, 3 PM hour) so no reason for Jon to ask any questions during the presser. It's not about being soft, it's about knowing you'll have more direct opportunities to ask several questions later on. But funny how people jump to that conclusion. Good presser for Lewis. He talks like his offense - very fast, and with no huddles (periods/breaks). Wife & kids seemed to enjoy it as well. Kind if defeats the purpose of a press conference, imo. Hopefully someone will ask about the staff in one of these breakout sessions. It's an introductory press conference. They introduced him. Newspapers & radio are there to make money, not contribute to an introduction. Why ask questions you're planning on asking individually to bolster your article for other news agencies? There were what, 3-4 articles in the UT with quotes from the breakout sessions, 1 from EVT, plus he was on several radio and TV media platforms. They all want to do what's best for them, some harder hitting than others. Introductory press conferences are just a show - they're not meant to be hard hitting journalism. Haven't had a chance to listen to Jon & Jim's interview with him, but he had said he'd ask something around the assistants when I talked to him. Hope he did.

RE coaches in that interview: He mentioned meeting with the current staff and alluded to bringing in some guys pretty quickly that he's worked well with in the past. Also reiterated that there is no timeframe. Getting the right guys is more important than getting guys fast.

My prediction: He will be here in San Diego for only 2-4 years. He will get poached by USC or Texas A&M after the Aztecs have some brilliant success. If for some reason Ryan Day leaves and tOSU hires Fickell, then I'd be worried that Lewis goes to his alma mater. That's likely a couple of years away at least. He's got a contract that will pay him about $10 million over five years and his kids are starting school now. It'd probably take a great offer from a place he could win a natty to get him to move again so soon, all things being equal.

would guess that for a school similar to the Buckeyes or a school in the BIG or SEC to offer him the HC position - they would need to see how well he did with SDSU
needless to say would guess that Michigan would not do a Brady hire again -

Buyout is $5M leaving first year, $3M year two, then $2M each year thereafter. So I think he will be here for awhile.

NFL loves it when teams score lots of points.

Yes he did. And, he told that to the AD before he was hired.
