I've been wanting to see this for years, but could never find it anywhere. I finally had a chance this morning to watch Born To Lead - The Sal Aunese Story, and I liked it a lot. I knew Sal. We weren't friends or anything, but he was the T.A. in my electronics class in our senior year, and when I hurt my elbow passing the football at P.E. he gave me some helpful advice in how to help recover and prevent it from happening again. (Apparently, warming up and throwing short passes is good, and throwing the ball as far as you can without warming up can be bad... Trust me, I really screwed up my elbow and the pain was excruciating every time I threw it more than 10 yards after that - until I took Sal's advice.) Anyway, this documentary really shows what kind of a guy Sal was. All of us from Vista were shocked when he died from stomach cancer at 21 years old. When you watch this documentary you can see that he was one hell of a quarterback, and may have had an NFL career if not for the cancer. THe other takeaway I got from the documentary was that Sal was one hell of a student of the game. He was a coach among the players, and I strongly suspect he would have ended up becoming a coach when his playing days were done. And I have no doubt he would have been a successful coach, too.

I enjoyed watching that, thank you for posting the link.
I saw Sal Aunese play in that Vista vs Helix championship game at the Murph. My friend was playing the game before and we decided to stay for the last game.
Everyone around me expected Helix to win, but it looked by halftime Vista was the better team. Whenever Vista had a third and long, Sal Aunese just made a play and kept the chains moving. I also remember that game because the fog rolled in after the 1st quarter, which played well for Vista’s running offense.
It makes you realize, we all have just a short time on this earth….live well while you are here!
