UCF will be in the Big 12 this season That doesn’t equal NIL dollars. It's the best basketball league by a lot. The BIG10 gets a lot of pub during the season but often chokes in MM.

He looks like a good one but I Didn't see him linked to Aztecs. Is he considering SDSU ? No link to us, but our A, B and C transfer plans at Center have all but evaporated so maybe the coaching staff might go back and look through the portal for a hidden gem like Dandridge..

UCF will be in the Big 12 this season That doesn’t equal NIL dollars. Largest student body base in Florida & 2nd largest in the country. They have a huge alumni base, so I'd imagine some of them have money. Even given that, IMO Diallo's decision is about the role he'd get there versus elsewhere.

Money talks, players walk, jump, run.... I don’t know about that. UCF had to cut a lot at the school just to get in the BIG12. Now they are asking for tourist tax revenue to speed up athletic facility upgrades. They are ballers on a budget.

Spent a good deal of time going through the 180 Centers in the portal, out of the total 1,768 players who entered. Most guys who play "the 5" have been snatched up and are committed, it's slim pickings, but if we are after a backup postman we're in better shape than looking for a starter.
Decent Back-Up "Fives"
Adrame Diongue 7'1 195 WSU Wilhelm Breidenbach 6'11 225 Nebraska (Mater Dei, CA) Mac Etienne 6'10 235 UCLA John Bol Ajak 6'10 215 Syracuse Mouhamadou Cissé 6'10 210 St. Louis Carlos Curry 6'11 240 GA Southern David Muoka 6'10 235 UNLV Davion Bradford 7'0 265 Wake Forest Tim Ighoefe 7'0 235 CAL Baptist Sam Freeman 6'10 240 UoP John Ojiako 6'10 245 Geo Mason D.J. Basey 6'10 230 Coastal Carolina Isaiah Miranda 7'1 205 NC State
Best Starter "Fives"
Grant Nelson 6'11 235 ND State Malcolm Dandridge 6'9" 250 Memphis Connor Vanover 7'5 227 Oral Roberts

The heavy lifting will have to be taken up by LeDee at this point, DJ and the new guy will be on court just fill minutes and slow the game down for LeDee. Next seasons team will be set up a little different with a little more scoring capability but with less defense (big man presences)

This is a good list, exactly the types I assume they are looking at. A little rebounding, a little shot blocking, limited minutes and some fouls to give.

Dutch still looking for a big-body, rim protector who can play the 5 SDUT 6/2/23: MBB State of State: Aztecs basketball to rely on youngsters if they can’t find transfer bigThe other sophomore is Demarshay Johnson Jr., a bouncy 6-10, 235-pound post from Oakland entering his third season in the program after redshirting as a true freshman. He remains something of an enigma — a long, athletic, explosive body but no meaningful court time to show for it.
He made just nine appearances last season. The only two longer than four minutes came against Div. III Occidental and in a 34-point win against Kennesaw State, and he has yet to score against a Div. I opponent.
But big men typically develop later, and Dutcher has been around long enough to know that.
“This is his year,” Dutcher said. “He’s got good hands and good feet. Having been in the program, he knows how to play. Now he’s got to prove he’s capable of playing game minutes. He’s looked good in practice. His endurance has gone up. He’s had some endurance issues early, but he’s worked to overcome those.
“He’s got to make the next progression. He’s got to keep growing his game and his confidence, and he’ll have opportunities. What he makes of that opportunity is going to be based on how hard he prepares this summer.

Eliminates Diongue in theory (although maybe if they don’t find something else they’d still go after him and redshirt him).

Diongue wouldn't help us much if at all this year and if you RS him he's basically in the same class as Heide. Johnson & Heide are likely our 5s in 2025. Even if we were semi interested no chance Diongue comes here to sit with no guarantees he'll even be in the mix in 2025.

He would have had 2 years left when he available. SDSU wants a center it clear as day. Dutcher and everyone knows they do. It kinda funny they never mention DJohnson after the season ended. Dutch and the assistant coaches did a million interviews. Byrd and Saunders got raved reviews for the upcoming season. Zero on DJohnson till Dutcher lasted interview this week.

So he didn't talk about him until he did talk about him? Maybe Johnson is making progress and developing? It's what players do. Good programs help them do that. I have seen many players at SDSU become so much better between their freshman year and Senior year. IF you had looked at Lamont Butler as a freshman or sophomore, he was not nearly as good as he is now. Johson will be a sophomore this year. He's doing fine.

Why was SDSU coaches were trying to get a center that had to redshirt and had two years eligibility? The Butler example doesn’t help your statement. Butler had double digits as a freshman. He was good on defense to play right away. DJohnson had to redshirt. He got pass up by Saunders a true freshman. He only got double digits mins against Div. IIIOccidental. Also, I’ll add this. Mensah and AG as freshman had double digits mins as freshman.

That does not diminish Johnson at all. If Dutch thinks he's a year away then he's going to get a big man for a year to fill the gap. Did we get the center to redshirt? No maybe they soured on him once that had a chance to evaluate him and meet him. Its fine it you don't like Johnson and do not think he can develop as a valuable player for this team. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

Shay was there for a championship run and a final four trip. He is a valuable member of this squad. Three seasons from now, with a Pac12 schedule we will value his experience. His time will come you can count on it!

The grass is not always greener on the other side. I already done this talked before. If DJohnson was good enough at defense he would have gotten in and LeDee or AG could have move to PF for mop up time.Correct? Saunders a true freshman had more games (16) in mop up duty. Than DJohnson a redshirt freshman 9 games. Saunders min played 5.8. DJohnson mins played 3.6. You don’t see a problem? It wasn’t going to fill the gap. If Javonte Brown redshirted he would have been a redshirt junior same as DJohnson. So it clearly shows they don’t have the biggest confidence in DJ. Or they never would have try to get him here. I bet you where saying all the great things on James Johnson and Joel Mensah when they were here.
