We had a pretty good team last year correct? Hard for a freshman to get minutes with Mensah, Ledee and AG. That does not diminish Johnson at all. If Dutch thinks he's a year away then he's going to get a big man for a year to fill the gap. Did we get the center to redshirt? No maybe they soured on him once that had a chance to evaluate him and meet him. Its fine it you don't like Johnson and do not think he can develop as a valuable player for this team. The grass is not always greener on the other side. I already done this talked before. If DJohnson was good enough at defense he would have gotten in and LeDee or AG could have move to PF for mop up time.Correct? Saunders a true freshman had more games (16) in mop up duty. Than DJohnson a redshirt freshman 9 games. Saunders min played 5.8. DJohnson mins played 3.6. You don’t see a problem? It wasn’t going to fill the gap. If Javonte Brown redshirted he would have been a redshirt junior same as DJohnson. So it clearly shows they don’t have the biggest confidence in DJ. Or they never would have try to get him here. I bet you where saying all the great things on James Johnson and Joel Mensah when they were here. Nope I never made any posts about them. They decided against Javonte. Isn't he the one that stepped down in quality to go to Westen Michigan? Highly doubt a player would choosen them over us if we had offered. Like I said it's ok you don't like Johnson or think he's a good player. Go Aztecs!

How do know that he didn’t get offer? He did visit SDSU so clearly they thought highly of him. So, I guess Ibrahima Diallo was a step down too and all the other transfers centers SDSU was interested in too. Lol. You are reaching so bad right now. It ok, you magically think Johnson a good player. Besides the coaches not talking about him or they where looking a center that had to redshirt and have the same eligibility. Also, getting pass up by a true freshman in playing time.

You're the expert so I'll defer to you as you know much more about this then I do.

I not a expert but, when the coaches don’t talk about you till this week and they did try to look at a transfer to take his spot. It doesn’t look good.

Spent a good deal of time going through the 180 Centers in the portal, out of the total 1,768 players who entered. Most guys who play "the 5" have been snatched up and are committed, it's slim pickings, but if we are after a backup postman we're in better shape than looking for a starter. Decent Back-Up "Fives"Adrame Diongue 7'1 195 WSU Wilhelm Breidenbach 6'11 225 Nebraska (Mater Dei, CA) Mac Etienne 6'10 235 UCLA John Bol Ajak 6'10 215 Syracuse Mouhamadou Cissé 6'10 210 St. Louis Carlos Curry 6'11 240 GA Southern David Muoka 6'10 235 UNLV Davion Bradford 7'0 265 Wake Forest Tim Ighoefe 7'0 235 CAL Baptist Sam Freeman 6'10 240 UoP John Ojiako 6'10 245 Geo Mason D.J. Basey 6'10 230 Coastal Carolina Isaiah Miranda 7'1 205 NC State
This is a good list, exactly the types I assume they are looking at. A little rebounding, a little shot blocking, limited minutes and some fouls to give. 4-star 7'1" Isaiah Miranda off the board at OSU.

Regarding Brown, the staff was 90% sure he'd get a waiver to play this year so he would never be in the same class as Shay. Plus, he wasn't promised minutes over Johnson. He wanted a bigger role, which wasn't happening here.

I can understand that if when the Aztecs brought Brown in for a visit and Shay was as good or better that they might have passed on him -
Or are you saying that the coaches explained to him he would very likely be a back up to Ledee and have to battle Shay for the PT and then He decided to look else where
Could also say did the staff even attempt to recruit Adrame or the center from Memphis ask them to come in and check out their ability - realize you ask a transfer upteen times but if they have no interest you move on
Would also say it is important that Shay knows the coaches believe in him and so he works especially hard this Summer / Fall to show what he can do

Looks like the 6’10” UNLV transfer, David Muoka is a front-court target for many Western schools, very strong & athletic player who averages around 4.6 PPG, 4.7 RPG & 1.4 BPG. It's unknown if the Aztecs are talking with him. Well-known to the SDSU coaching staff after playing two years at UNLV, and 2 at Lamar, originally from Hong Kong.

Hear me out, Cal Baptist Center Tim Ighoefe is in the transfer portal. At 7'0" 255 he is physically imposing.
He is 4th-year junior averaging 5.6 PPG,6.2 RPG, and 2.2 BPG this season. Previously played 3 seasons at Georgetown and started 20 of 24 for G'town and 8 of 19 for the Cal Baptist Lancers.
Not linked to SDSU in the press or social media.
