Yes. Many. Those have been discussed quite a bit as well. And that dialogue is ongoing on this forum. I’m on record supporting serious gun reform and my fellow conservatives often rip me for it. Not that I care. I’d say it should be priority 1A, but I have no faith at all in Republicans working with Democrats for meaningful progress, and it makes me sick. I’m also free on this forum to discuss a multitude of topics. 100%. So the shooting that took place in Nashville....In the immediate aftermath, you have a Tennessee politician ask children "Which gun would you choose to be shot with?" because we have an open problem with admitting responsibility for campaign donations generated by the NRA, combined with this bloodthirsty appeal to pander to gun-toting sociopaths. Florida just passed a concealed carry/no permit bill. Politicians refuse to accept the common denominator; the gun. There will be no serious gun reform until that reality sinks in. More thoughts: We have normalized this sense of devastation. I'll say that again: We have normalized this sense of devastation. We've accepted it. Sandy Hook; 20 dead children, aged six or seven. 20. Their only thought that morning was going to school to learn, to socialize with friends. They had no concept of violence inside their walls. Uvalde; 19 dead children, aged 9-11. Who was there to protect them? But it doesn't stop there. Once we've accepted that dead children are the sacrifice we are willing to make to keep floating 2nd Amendment horseshit privileges, we have nowhere else to fall. There is NOTHING beneath that. When I was 14 and school shootings were still a relatively new phenomenon, I could handle the fear...eventually. But a first grader? A second grader? Psychologically speaking, that trauma will last forever. There's no going beyond it. Now, we have politicians being expelled for standing up for students walking out of campuses where they are afraid of winding up a statistic, a dead body in a hallway, bleeding out on the cold floor. It takes courage to walk out and take a stand against something like this and that message will be lost before long.

And I did see that politicians comment, and he’s part of the problem. I hope he gets voted out, but in that district is there any faith his replacement wouldn’t be like minded?

Yeah, I’m old enough to remember Columbine VERY well.
It’s so tragic how far down the list of similar tragedies that is now.
Society just processes, and moves on. When will that stop? Ever?
Not even trying is unacceptable.

They see a world changing faster than they can adjust, emotionally and mentally. So instead of addressing the problem, which they know intellectually exists..they over react to a kind of archaic version of America they think once existed. Except it really didn't. This does not end well.

Spoken like a true Islamic jihadist...whatever happened to the land of the free...the home of the slave/brave...being able to pursue...not Josh's...but your own happiness? You’re a twisted individual. Way out of line. I wonder if Erik or another mod will raise your warning level for such an inappropriate comment. Will be interesting to see. They would if I had said it. It’s a shame you’re too dumb to be able to tell the difference between someone being completely in favor of Trans rights but not in unequal competition particularly that including combat sports. Unreal. Islam’s Jihad Against Homosexuals"The rise of modern Islamic extremism has worsened the intolerance toward homosexuality. Extremists don’t just commit violence against LGBT people. They also spread the prejudice globally by preaching that homosexuality is a disease and a crime." www.belfercenter.org/publication/islams-jihad-against-homosexualsIs not the purpose of your Islamic jihadist sentiment?...to spread prejudice by preaching/posting a thread...stating its title...that trans are a cult and are "dangerous"...like the disease of COVID...that "needs to" be stopped?...like crime in SF....one can come to the conclusions...based on the evidence.....

Don't know why you went there, but yet again, yes I do. It's not about what they do with their bodies. We all have freedom of choice. It's about a man fighting a woman, physically. You probably knew what I meant, and you wanted to open this subject up. Predictable. Why did I go there? In response to your post. Duh. Again, that fight was nearly a decade ago. You'd know this if you actually bothered to do any kind of research on it, instead of just chiming in again. That's one of TWO transgender athletes in the history of mixed martial arts. Two. Again, your gripe is with the sanctioning body/governing organization that cleared the fight in the first place, not with transgender rights. Chimed in? I was the first to respond to Josh's post/thread. Duhhh!!! I can chime in all I want, bud, just as you do MANY times, so save it. My post was only about a male body fighting a female body. Duhhh. Nothing about transgender and whether someone should change their gender. You went there. Duhhh. I don't care if it was a decade ago, it's still wrong. I didn't need to research something like that. It's blatant, no matter when it happened. I don't blame the people fighting if they were allowed to, but I do question the integrity of an individual that would fight a female if he has a male body. If YOU don't, then you have issues.

just as an aside. Some friends who don't know hoop real well...thought Kaitlin Clark should get drafted by the NBA! I explained to them why it wouldn't work. She's a fabulous, generational, player. However, she wouldn't be able to guard anybody, and she wouldn't be able to drive inside or get a shot off from the perimeter for reasons we know who play sports. Its just the difference between males and females. That's not to say she couldn't school most guys she'd face in a pick up game at the local gym.

Not even trying is unacceptable. I spent almost a year researching Columbine, having friends in the Denver suburbs who were in nearby towns. The planning that went into Columbine was immense. The lack of accountability from both Sue Klebold and the Harris family was astonishing. Sue Klebold gave a TED talk about all the signs she missed in Dylan. It's hard to believe it'll be 25 years next year and we're *WORSE* off now than when we were in 1999. And you're right, not trying is cowardice, plain and simple. The United States has a gun problem.

I'm not surprised it's gotten worse. The copy cat phenomenon just took off. It became an avalanche. That's not the only reason why it's gotten worse, but one of them. Many sick individuals out there.
Once somebody has the balls to do something like that, and they get a lot of exposure for it, that feeds right into the sick mind, and nudges the sick individual that has fantasized about it, to go over the edge and do it. It will not get better most likely, but worse, unfortunately.

You’re selectively twisting words. I’ll edit my OP title so you understand it better. Kid, I went to high school in Palm Springs. I lived there until I was 21. I’d wager I have more friends and loved ones in the gay & bi community than you do. I have nothing against the gay community nor consider them any less equal. Quite the opposite. I do NOT respect natural born men competing in women’s sports, and I do not condone gender reassignment in children, as I do not think their brains are developed enough for that massive, life altering decision. Your sort of rhetoric is dangerous, and it’s disappointing that Banther is letting it slide. Shame on you, and him. OK, MOD'S NOTE - Let's stop the personal stuff. Both of you. I get where the Islamic Jihadist statement came from, bnasty, but that comment was still really pushing it (he's no Islamic Jihadist). Now things are going off the rails. Enough. Right now the Trans community is the new target of hate from the far right. It's the one group they believe they can get away with discriminating against openly, so a lot of people are very sensitive about criticism of that group as a result. The original post did come across as fitting in with that attack (even if that wasn't the intent), so a few resulting comments were predictable. Let's just keep our cool and discuss the topic, not each other.

The answer is fairly obvious.
Transgender events. The current mindset is just ludicrous and completely destroys the competitive ideal which is at the heart of sports. The Olympics, Special Olympics, Paralympics, it is reasonable to assume there is room for the….well, however they want to brand this event.
The current situation of biological men beating women is unacceptable. If you think otherwise, seek professional help.
