Has the men's basketball team ever played the #1 team in the country before? Questions like this is why I have always bought the media guides. Now they're available on line. DePaul in December 1980. Lost 69-85. Duke December2001. Lost 79-92. Arizona in December 2002. Lost 81-89. I was at the DePaul game at the Sports Arena. It was part of the Texaco Classic tournament. Looking back, it was kind of crazy that we got such great teams to come to San Diego. That year's tournament featured DePaul, Georgetown, LaSalle and SDSU. SDSU got to play both its games vs. LaSalle and DePaul at the Sports Arena. Georgetown played both its games vs. DePaul and LaSalle at Peterson Gym. DePaul was everybody's darling that year. They featured two fantastic guards in Mark Aguirre and Terry Cummings. Georgetown had Sleepy Floyd. The Aztecs had Michael Cage, Tony Gwynn, Eddy Gordon and Zach Jones. Can't find the box score for the DePaul-SDSU game. It would be fun to check that out. DePaul went into the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 ranked No. 1 seed but then immediately cr@pped the bed, losing 49-48 to St. Joe's. Crazy.

As far as NCAA tournament games go it is definitely up there with our other 2 sweet 16 games. But, biggest game in program history I don't think so, win @ Kansas and @ Gonzaga were pretty large for our national growth as a program.

The drubbing of UCLA at the Honda Center was pretty important as well. But, c'mon, playing the No. 1 team in the country in the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament? Doesn't get any bigger than that.

Nick Saban at a press conference discussing his suspension of a player and throwing a dig at the Oates "wrong place wrong time" comment. Hopefully this will put pressure on the BBall program.

Another thing to think about, my two question Informal National Survey* shows a tremendous amount of support for SDSU, given the controversial Brandon Miller situation. Results can be found below: *Survey population of one person.

If we win, the Elite 8 game following would become the biggest game in program history.

There have also been two other Aztec teams that got to SW 16 - then not sure who they played but do not think it was was the #1 seed in MM
So if the Aztecs win are the Aztecs part of the Elite 8
Some other games as noted beating the Zags - Kansas - ... made statements for the team

The first Sweet 16 team played UConn, who went on to win the National Championship, and the second Sweet 16 team played Arizona, who lost in the Elite 8 matchup (but Arizona has always given us trouble). Arizona was a 1 seed and we were a 4 seed that year.

Certainly a tough game for us. Coach K just picked Alabama to win it all on the NCAA sirious channel. We need some breaks and our experience to wear them down.

Of course that did not have the results of any games played in 2018-19. The 2019-20 media guide agrees with you.
Sadly they seem to have quit publishing hard copy media guides. At least they've stopped selling them to fans. The latest media guides are available on line at goaztecs.com. I prefer the hard copy versions.

Outstanding win. Now the elite 8 will be the biggest game in program history. Each game for the remainder of the season will become the biggest game in program history. Win 3 more and the best any future games can do is become tied for the biggest game in program history. None will ever be bigger than our first NCAA National Championship.

I could argue if we win next 3 games, any other NC game would not be as big because it would not be the first. Get to NC game produces something that can be used to help improve program for years. Elite 8 already sets the new high bar. Each win at this point is another new rung up the ladder. This success helps with future success. I am expecting final 4. I have stated my belief that SDSU has 70% chance of winning. This is based on creighton’s lack of depth, the quick turn around, our physicality, our defense, our multi player inside game. Clearly I like our chances but I believe it is not based on a fan bias but real items. I would not be giving this level of confidence if we were playing Texas,k state, Gonzaga. I have not really looked at Miami or FAU. Go Aztecs!

I don't know what it would take to match or exceed the first National Championship.
I know we won an NAIA national championship in 1941. That was before my time and I don't think it matches up with an NCAA championship now.
