Great game but too many timeouts in the final minute. That was stupid for Fresno to take that last timeout that stopped a game winning three.

The 3 went in cause the defender stopped after the whistle. Who knows if it goes in if he was actively being guarded. |

Bottom line CSU had a clutch scorer and Fresno does not or they could have beaten the Aztecs in the game at Fresno
So now the coaches will have to figure out a way to stop CSU -

More likely to be a one possession game against Fresno, since the score would have been 28-26, but Fresno doesn’t have any guys who I’m afraid of taking that shot.
Less likely to be a one possession game against CSU, but if it is, Isaiah Stevens is scary. Zero doubt he was making the shot on CSU’s last possession.

In a one-and-done scenario, I think it's much more beneficial to face them. They led by double digits and very easily could have lost against a Fresno team that struggles to score. |

Stevens and Tonje only had 33 points between them at Viejas. We won by 19 because it was at sea level and they don't really have anyone else that scares you.
They were 229th in scoring defense at almost 72 points a game, we give up 64.
Doesn't mean they can't beat us but they certainly shouldn't. KenPom has us winning 75-66.

Fresno had 14 fewer free throws, their top scorer went 2-15, and CSU blew a 11 point lead with 7 min remaining against an anemic offense. CSU got lucky to win. I think we are playing who we would want to play.

If New Mexico's guards get hot, lookout!!! It always helps to play them at sea level. They did beat us at sea level but without Arop. Nate fouled out guarding Udeze, who had 15 rebounds and 10 points. Arop would have helped a lot on defense. New Mexico is bad on defense but we were still terrible with our 3s: Butler, Parrish and Trammell were 1-14. And LeDee was a complete non-factor: 24 minutes, 0-2 shooting, 0 points. Bradley had a bad game: 5-16 shooting, 4 fouls, 3 TOs and missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 2:29 left and down by four. That won't happen again. I'd love to play them one more time. |
