As told through the eyes of Rays reliever Ryan Thompson.
Combine this with what the Brewers did to Burnes and Hader, I wouldn't be surprised to see some widespread changes to the process in the next CBA.

He got 10-20% less then he should have. He should have gotten at least 1.1M, he tried to get 1.2M, he got 1M..
Is a 10-20% difference a "broken" system? Possibly.
Women earn 82% of when men earn. That's a 20% gap. Some of that is attributable to less years in the workforce however due to taking care of children. When adjusting for that, what percentage of the pay gap is gender bias?
African-American men and women earn 70%/82% of what white men/women earn (as of 2016). Some of this is due to educational opportunity, some of it is due to years in the workforce and incarceration gaps, some of this is due to racial bias.
Does 10-20% matter? Yes. But this is just one example, so I would need more evidence to consider it a broken system.

Skimmed it..
Honestly my level of care towards the issue from a 1 to a 10 is like a 3.
Oh no, he made 1M in arbitration instead of 1.25M
Most people make a tenth of 1M, or a 20th of 1M per year. It's just not very relatable to me, I can't say that I have those kind of life problems...
The top 0.1% of baseball players making seven figures while there are guys that are in the top 2% of baseball players who only play in college, maybe get a 10K signing bonus and play in the minors for a couple of years making nothing and that's it. Income levels compound at an insane level of acceleration between the top 2% and the top 0.1% in ability levels for any sport.

Very interesting thread, and I learned something today. Didn’t know much at all about the process. He has a point.

It's one thing to suppress player values (when a team gets six years of control off the bat), it's another thing entirely to create statistics that don't exist to justify doing it.
