Politically speaking. Notice that there are only Democrat and Republican candidates on the '22 ballot. ALL the minor parties are excluded. I guess it's now a law that only the two top vote getters in the primary election appear on the final ballot. Libertarian, Green, American Independent, etc. are therefore excluded. Occasionally two Dems or two GOP candidates appear on the ballot because the opposite party could not come in second. That is also a problem, but not so much as the monopoly shared by the two major parties.
I believe that the absence of one or two strong minor parties is a flaw in our politics. The present system of excluding minor party candidates from the ballot should be a red flag to anyone who does not want to see the USA become, effectively, a one-party country.

AzWm Don't worry, the Republicans are doing their best to make sure that Democrats can't win statewide elections or national office going forward. (Putting forward new laws that would allow state legislatures to overturn elections without evidence of fraud - just suspicion. With MAGA types getting elected to statewide election positions they'll make sure that they claim suspicious activity when the Republicans lose, but none when they win.) So, yeah, one party rule in a few years is coming.
