Winners 1. San Diego Padres (+6.8% playoffs, +3.5% World Series) If you’re surprised by this one, then you clearly hadn’t followed any of the news over the last week. And were out of internet range. With a box on your head and your fingers in your ears. And a brass band was marching around you 24 hours a day, playing all your least favorite Sousa tunes. Adding Soto to the roster would have been enough to put the Padres here single-tradedly, but they also made a significant upgrade at first base by bringing in Josh Bell, and even Brandon Drury is a useful role player. ZiPS actually thinks that head-to-head, the Padres are a stronger team than the Dodgers! Actually catching Los Angeles remains a nearly insurmountable challenge of math, but the Friars have strong odds of avoiding last season’s disappointing denouement. I hope Erik sees this... That's pretty much what I expected. We're too far back to have a good chance of catching the Dodgers (they're not going to stumble that badly), but we do have the talent to hang with them now. This is actually really exciting. I never thought I'd see a day like yesterday from the Padres. We were told for decades that it wasn't possible.

I was surprised that the attendance stayed as high as it has all season, and I would think that, barring a complete collapse, the Padres now have an offense that can keep them in games, so yeah--I can also see 3 mil again. 53 home dates so far this season, total attendance is 1,958,000, for an average of 36,950. They need to average 37,038 for the season to reach 3 million.

Yeah, I read that somewhere, too. They may not have gotten the go-ahead to go after Soto and Bell until after they told Hosmer they weren't going to move him. Maybe. Read it again this morning. Apparently he got deked big time on that one. Yep, no bueno if that's the case. No wonder he hasn't spoken out.

After watching him play for the last few days I'd love to see him get a 12 year deal. He DOES live up to the hype.

Hopefully, he reads some Tony Gwynn history and works his AZZZZZtecs off to be the best right fielder in MLB. He's already got the eye, and he's not afraid to use the power.

After seeing the amount the Padres want to raise season ticket prices beginning next year, it would seem they are trying to raise the funds to sign Soto to a long term deal. My Gold plan is going up 17.5%, and my friend's Platinum plan seats are going up 24.1%.

Price of business.

It would be cheaper for me to drive to LE, get some sort of ticket plan, and pay for parking, than it would be for me to go to Padres games next year.
