Padres ship away the farm.
Give up: Gore, Hassel, Abrams, Susana, Wood, ptbnl
Get: Juan Soto, Josh Bell
Major deal from Preller, the Padres are going all in this year! They have assembled a lineup which can take down the Dodgers and get to the World Series.
This could be the biggest trade in franchise history. Certainly on par with the Tony Fernandez Fred McGriff for Robbie Alomar Joe Carter deal back in the ‘90’s!
HOLY CRAP!!

I will believe this when it is announced officially and not before.

Looks like Hosmer is tentatively part of the deal. He just has to sign off on it. Could he scuttle the whole thing?

Do we need a new thread for every move? We might have to make another one soon.

Hosmer vetoed the deal, but it's still going through.

Maybe you guys talked about it in another thread but where are we getting this kind of money to make these kinds of trades? Historically we were the ones always trading away our best players and never spending/trading like this other than the year we traded for the Upton bros and others. I'm just shocked on how we are getting this done.

SO what does the club do to or with Hosmer now? He's not going to play 1st with Bell, Cronenworth, Myers and Voit available. He won't DH with Tatis, Bell, Myers and Voit available. He's going to spoil the chemistry.
Can they release and pay him? Would they?
Or do they just trade him to one of the teams not on his no-trade list for pennies on the dollar?

Don't necessarily agree with that. For example, if Soto has taken the Pads to a game 7 WS loss (which would be a lot further than any past team) then it absolutely would have been worth it.

Just like it says in my signature line at the bottom of my posts--"how much $$$ will the Padres have to eat to rid themselves of Hosmer?". I think we are about to find out.
