Up to national ranking #22 by 24/7, would now be our highest rated recruit ever, by a wide margin. Just shot up 86 spots in the rankings.
Just imagine if he liked playing and didn’t just have to because he was 7 foot! /sarc

We've been on him longer than most, and I'm pretty sure he's already visited the campus, whether official or unofficial. Definitely a project, especially offensively.

I think given the schools that were after him, we had as good a shot as anyone. Given how his rankings and development have skyrocketed in this past session - #22 nationally is huge and not a “project” anymore - I really could see the recruitment going any way. Dutch was there early, but he’s in the process of blowing up at the P5 level. Check back in 6 months and I’d imagine he has 20+ high level offers, if he hasn’t committed yet. The kid started at 14 years old and is still only 17, I believe. That’s where the project tag is coming from, but it’s getting outdated fast. The latest tape on him is very, very impressive. He always had the height and defense, handles and shot are coming along very quickly.

Think that AAU events will attract even more coaches this summer .
He will get to play against other quality players

In talking with the coaches during one of his games they definitely see him as a project. It'll take a couple years for him to make an impact once on campus.

He seems about as raw as raw can get. However, I don't know how you can really gauge or judge his skill sets vs others his age. He is just so much bigger than everyone else as you know and just his presence changes the game. He could develop into something special but it will take a while. He is a man among boys right now so it has gotta be hard to measure just how good he is or can be. His footwork seems rough but he does seem to have a good instinct on blocking shots which probably surprises no one.

Wonder if he is considering a Prep School or maybe looking for School that might allow him to red shirt and learn the system
Totally agree it is very difficult for a 7 ft player to gain that much true competitive experience when they are playing in a regular HS conference where they do not see many taller players .

Kansas offers the 7-footer Well azteccc is right. Also if you jump that high up in the ranks. It the coaches that are telling the writers that he is going to be good.

Yep, his ceiling is very high but he's got a long ways to go to play regularly at the collegiate level. He was getting outrounded by 6'5-type kids when I saw him, Myles Byrd included, who outmuscled him & pushed him off the block with ease. His timing blocking shots, & length of course, is what makes him so appealing, and he does have a soft touch from in close. But very thin & very raw. Will be interesting to see how he develops this year, and hope his team returns to Torrey so we can gauge his growth.

Any coach who fancies themselves as a teacher would embrace the opportunity to turn this guy into a great center.
The fact that Kansas has offered is eye opening.

I’d imagine we no longer have a good shot with this kid. He seems like a high major one and done type… blew up just a little too fast. We likely would have A LOT of PT next year for a 5… https://www.instagram.com/tv/CeUZD5xF2DH

There is a striking improvement from this guy’s footage 10 months ago to now. He moves with more grace, confidence and now has a passable shot.
Maybe he took dance lessons or martial arts. Sign him coach! It’s an easy 80 mile drive for his friends and family to Viejas.

Numerous tall players can take a while to develop
The Aztecs have made a strong pitch for him - we will see what he values most for his college basketball - Could be a P6 program or stay fairly local where his family can watch him play
Do not forget UCLA has also been there to visit with him
Every recruit has their own priorities

I think our chances just took a turn for the better here. While I worry about behavior issues and we don't have patience for those problems, this is similar to Kawhi's lack of interest early on. (H/T to aztecbreakdown)
