I agree, for several reasons. They're going to be VERY good this year IMO, especially if Bagley stays healthy, and better yet, it's a good opponent with a great road trip. Love going to the desert in November/December!! Maybe that's the 1 more "marque" game Zeigler said they might look for to be played on the road? Between Maui, likely BYU in Viejas, and at ASU that'd be a solid core of games. I disagree, every year we hear the same old story from ASU. And it’s the same constant roster turn, undisciplined basketball with no idra how to defend. They might be good eventually but it will wait till hurley is gone ASU won 7 of their last 9 P12 games & gelled over time last year. They were 1 game out of 5th place. They did so without their most talented player all season, who's coming back, and with a complete roster overhaul. Their roster turnover is going to be significantly less this offseason, and will be much better earlier in the season as result. I'm not a fan of Hurley & agree he underperforms, but he can recruit & they were a tournament team in 2018 & 2019 and would have been had the tournament happened in 2020 as well. They've had 2 "down" years, but IMO he has a terrific roster this season. Washington will easily step in for Graham, while Boekye will improve, and Bagley will be an upgrade over Lawrence. The Cambridge bros were a great add as well. Hurley has said D is a priority, and this season defense wasn't the problem. They were one of the best defenses in the P12. Offense hurt them, and I see an upgrade there. IMO they'll be 1 of 2-3 teams fighting for the final NCAAT bid from the P12. I think they'll be a top 75 team, which is good enough for a Quad 1 game on the road & 2 at home. The location is also conducive to a series as well - Dutch likes west coast non-con games that fans can get to.

Lucas is pretty good. But Antonio Reeves is the key to making the Sweet Sixteen. He is long (better D) and has a much better shot and is the better playmaker. Not sure what makes you think Reeves has a much better shot, in fact if anything it is the opposite. Lucas has shot in the high 30s from 3 each of the last 2 years and at almost 90% from free throw line. Reeves is better but not because of the jumper. Last year at Illinois State, Reeves averaged 20.1 points on 47%/39%/82% shooting splits. He also added 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Visited both Kentucky & Nebraska

Visited both Kentucky & Nebraska Exactly...to be clear, my comment is simply based upon the eye test. Reeves has the technical form and smoothness of a Schakel but he can do it in a step-back and from 25 feet...CONSISTENTLY. Lucas has a stiff shot that seems to barely get over the defender. It's illogical to me that his 3PT% is so high - all heart which is admirable.
But if you are a stats guy, here's PPG performance the first 3 years: LUCAS: 4.6, 12.7, 13.5 (he was to be a bigger focus last year too)
REEVES: 7.2, 12.4, 20.1
The thing is...Reeves is long and kinda raw. He has a lot of upside. The elements his game lacks are what Dutcher & Staff focus on. It's a perfect spot for him and vice-versa. Lucas would be good as well but he may not necessarily get the minutes he expects.

The UK fan base is saying that Reeves is going to Lexington, Ky.

Reeves is better than Lucas, he is also the worse shooter. The numbers speak for themselves. This was his first year shooting well from 3

The latest rumor on Reeves is he is waiting for Sharpe to decide, if Sharpe leaves he is a lock for UK imo. Would love to be wrong

Reeves is better than Lucas, he is also the worse shooter. The numbers speak for themselves. This was his first year shooting well from 3 76/195 vs 73/189 That is statistically even. Lucas was nearly the same the year before while Reeves improved 10% and hits his from 5' deeper opening up the middle more. Lucas did face tougher competition.
But again, watch HOW they shoot. Lucas' % cannot get much better when you apply his form that requires a lot of body with how much harder he will be playing defense in our system. If you don't do that and get what I mean then I'm talking to a wall.

If you want to completely ignore the previous years of shooting and FT% which is a big predictor of 3 point % success you can do that. You are just using selective data and the “eye test”. You can ignore the entire picture if you would like.

You can ignore the entire picture if you would like. I tend to trust Theathletic's take below which rates Reeves higher but more as a scorer than the perimeter shooter Lucas is. Lucas is at WSU and may take 2 more trips. Thus far he hasn't been blown away at either Nevada or SDSU, at least to where he'd think of committing. Lucas is looking to play some point guard this year and does believe he'd have that chance at SDSU. WSU offers that as well, as does Nevada since they're starting from scratch. Reeves got some relevant news in that the FR from Kentucky (Sharpe) is staying in the draft so 1 less 5* to compete with if he goes there. From Theathletic: 26. Antonio Reeves | 6-5 wing | senior | Illinois State If you’re looking for scoring, scoring, and more scoring, Reeves might be the perfect player for you. He averaged 20.1 points per game in the Missouri Valley this year on his way to winning second-team all-conference honors as well as the league’s Most Improved Player award. Above all, he’s a pull-up maestro, capable of getting his shot from wherever on the floor at just about any time. He finished second in the conference behind Isiaih Mosley from Missouri State in scoring, hitting pull-up jumpers at a 51.4 effective field goal percentage, a very high number given his volume of shots. Among the 227 players nationally to take at least 100 pull-up jumpers, Reeves finished 19th in his efficiency in terms of making them, per Synergy. And yet, there’s a reason he only made second-team all-league despite those numbers. The rest of his game is a real work in progress. He has a long way to go as a passer and playmaker for others, and his defense leaves something to be desired. There is some question how scalable his game is to high-major situations where he’s just a piece of the puzzle. Still, my bet is a good high-major takes a shot on him and sees if those parts of his game can improve. The scoring is lethal enough to take such an informed bet. 41. Jarod Lucas | 6-3 guard | senior | Oregon State Lucas is another tried and proven high-major floor-spacer, an absolute sniper from distance who was essentially one of the few bright spots in a disastrous Oregon State season. He averaged 13.5 points while shooting 39 percent from 3 on over six attempts per game and making 87 percent of his free throws. He’s the kind of player who makes life easier for everyone else that is out there. He’s also a pretty underrated flop artist nationally who isn’t afraid to put his body in there and take charges. He looked pretty frustrated by the end of his time in Corvallis, so this shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. But any team looking for a legit shooter — and there are 100s of teams across the country looking for real shooters — should come calling. He’s from the southern California area, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him end up back on the West Coast.

The article quotes him as saying he wants to go where he can play more on the ball (ie point guard) ... so that's likely not sdsu, especially after landing Trammell.

Butler, Trammell & even Lucas are really combo guards, and can play on & off the ball. He specifically said in the article he believes he'd get that opportunity at SDSU.

SDSU's remaining recruiting in a nutshell: - 10 players currently on scholarship (assuming nobody enters portal in next 8-9 days which is very rare at SDSU) - AG very likely to come back, bringing that to 11. Will be the perfect 11th/12th man, given he won't demand PT but can bring an A game when needed - 2 open spots, 2 needs:
1) Center, starter or backup, although if Nate is truly weighing NBA vs. SDSU I'm sure Dutch can read the tea leaves & expects him back. If not, he's actively contacting others although no names mentioned. Past links to Anselem have come up, and his visiting Georgia (who's starting from scratch), and there are west coast kids like Kepnang still out there.
2) SG, with 3 guys appearing to the leading the chase in Reeves, Lucas & Williams. Reeves is an elite pull-up shooter & scorer with a big upside, but has holes including defensively. Lucas is a proven perimeter player & known as a good defender at 6'4 (although I've seen him take plays off frequently). Williams is an elite perimeter shooter, but shorter at 6'2. Lucas wants to play some on ball along with playing off the ball. Williams is a combo. Reeves is primarily off ball.
Lucas on 3rd visit today - decision time expected in around 20 days. Forget when Reeves is visiting us, but just finished Kentucky and said he'll take his time before deciding. No clue on Williams time table, but IMO he seems like Plan B to Reeves & Lucas being Plan A. First come first served between those two.
If we fill the center spot (Nate) & 2-guard (Reeves, Lucas ideally), and AG returns as expected, we're full and I'd expect Byrd to RS. Maybe even Saunders. Dutch rarely runs with more than 11 eligible players. I also think this roster is top 20 - Lunardi has us top 30-ish now w/o.
