Aztecs need to get in a power 5 conference before they can have a legit chance at signing a 5 star recruit.

Guys, we have absolutely no shot at this Carlsbad QB! Trust me, my kid plays ball with him. He has offers from everyone including Notre Dame, Georgia, UT, etc. He will go to any school he wants and State is not on the list. Not even worth wasting time or effort on the offer. He is a great kid, comes from a great family and he is elite! I am sure State knows and understands the situation. His dream offer was Univ of Texas from what I understand, but things have changed and I don't know what is going on now but maybe Notre Dame but coaching changes impact these things as you all know. With that said, he is going to be the highest rated and best player to come out of Carlsbad High ever. He is really a great kid and I wish we could get a player of his level and ability.

Never hurts to at least send him an offer right? I just hate hearing from a local recruit that says "SDSU never even contacted me" type of thing. Even though we all know he probably won't come here, that is ok. I just want to put a notice to all SD schools and players that if you are a fit for Coach Hoke and staff and a talented player and student athlete, that you will be recruited by us.

Yeah, this is kind of my mentality as well. I mean, sometimes guys will suprise us. Who would have thought we would have a pro-football HOF'er attend SDSU (Faulk) or a future basketball HOF'er (Kawhi)? Those both started with offers. Sometimes a kid might surprise us and have that hometown hero mentality.

Would guess that Brady or someone on the staff have talked with the QB and he probably told them of his offers or intentions .
Yes they could have given him an offer but if there is not any interest by the recruit ?
Aztecs have had this happen numerous times for both Football and Basketball - P5 schools vs G5

This kid has been well known for a few years. He was playing 7on7 up in LA with elite kids. The coaches have known about him for at least three years. I am 100% positive he respectfully let them know not to waste their time or make an offer. I know the coaches have been to many CHS practices last few years and have spoken with him. I would absolutely love to have this kid at State but with the OC we have, no chance we are getting a kid like this until our OC has some success. Hell, if he was my kid, I wouldn’t even let him come here unless I saw some consistent success with the offense and I love my Aztecs.

I dont pretend to know the background on official offers to a recruit but to me in my mind it would go something as simple as thing. "Hey we would love for you to be a part of this team and think you would be a great fit. Here is a scholarship and full ride to come play for your hometown (and sleeping giant, hehe) and be apart of something great. If you are not interested, well thank you for your time, good luck to you and take care." You are correct ramrodd23 that we wouldn't bother after that scenario. I just want to be sure we put out that offer initially ya know?

would guess that Aztec coaches - chat with numerous coaches and players around San Diego County - asking about their interest level of SDSU . If interest is there would think they pursue the player . If told other wise then presume they acknowledge the player and school . To talk with those who do .

You don’t just say here is a offer and that is it. Coaches talk to them, sent messages, watch film and go watch him play. Why the hell would you do all that when someone has zero interest in your program and not focus on players that actually have interest in the program?

Yeah that's why I mentioned I don't have a clue on how recruiting works so it was more just talk coming from a fan, nothing more. But I differ to you and the other poster who say they at least approached him and were told no. No harm in that initial convo IMO

Watching the tweets of our QB offers, and just anecdotally, seeing it's almost exclusively 3-star recruits.

No surprise there - as most of the Aztec recruits are 3 star - the 4 and 5 star usually head to P5 schools

Have we even landed a 4 star recruit yet? If we ever land a 5 star, please let it be some DT from the south.

The writer for the EVT - did an article saying the Aztecs may have a 5 star DB recruit from Mater Dei ( Orange County ) then stated in his article that if he was closer to 6 ft not maybe 5'8 " or 5'9" he would have very likely been a 5 star recruit .
Think we all know that most 4 or 5 star HS recruits are very likely going to P5 schools -
