Too many injuries. We need someone that will stay in a game and make it a season. I know we are not in a great QB situation but I don’t think this is the player we need. Just an opinion.

He's probably too "big time" for our program.

This is recruiting, so we're looking ahead. Between Haskell and our two recruits, plus if Johnson/Brookshire can or will stick around for another year, we might be in fine shape.

Hoke said Johnson and Brookshire are done after Bowl Game.

Hoke said Johnson and Brookshire are done after Bowl Game. Gotcha. I know there's been some discussion on the board about whether they'd get an extra year or not. Hoke as also suggested we'll go after a transfer, so if we can get someone with experience to back up Haskell then we'll be in pretty good shape.

He’s got to be better than what we have. He has a career 56% completion percentage… 18 TDs and 12 INTs with a career rating of 124.4 and a QBR this year of 58.6 Lucas Johnson 60% completion percentage… 11 TDs and 5 INT with a career rating of 120.2 and a QBR this year of 48.6 Maybe a little better, but still bad…

We are going to need a transfer. Maden and Haskell are unknown quantities and there’s no way either incoming freshman is ready to play.

We're all excited about Haskell. I'm hoping he lives up to our expectations. We got one glimpse of Mayden vs. USU and I thought he looked pretty good. I have no inside info but just an unsupported sense that he's been in Hoke's dog house. Perhaps not working hard enough in the weight room or class room? Just guesses and not trying to be critical. I remember in the fall, Hoke said Mayden was very athletic but he wanted him to lose some weight...I could be way off. Either way, based on his limited game reps, I think he may be better than we give him credit for.

Unless some former 5 star QB wants to transfer to SDSU I'm sticking with Haskell as the future starter with Mayden backing him up.

Sounds as if the two young QB's that we currently have and the 2 HS QB's that have committed will all be at Spring Practice and Brady has said that they like those 4 - . If they can get an additional QB in the Portal then that would be great .
Do think that it would be smart for both Haskell and Mayden to play at least a Q each in the Bowl game . They also probably want to know where they stand in the picture for 2022 and beyond

Having a San Diego kid come home makes a ton of sense. But, DOES he want to come to SDSU? I mean, La Jolla Country Day kids don't usually step down to non-P5/State colleges. But we did get a Bishops kid (Micah Seau) before. Oldie Out

Interceptions to attempts has the highest predictive power of any single QB statistic. Burmeister's INT/ATT ratio last year was 1.56% which is very good and 1.19% in the prior year. Johnson and Brookshire's combined INT/ATT ratio this past season was 1.61% - no difference really, all very good. The completion percentage comparison is skewed because Burmeister threw longer passes than our QB's did - hence higher probability of lower completion percentage. Burmeister's yards/completion was 13.8 whereas our QB's were 10.9. IMO Burmeister is a better runner and averaged 7.4 designed rushes per game at 8.2 ypc vs 5.5 rushes for 6.8 ypc for our QBs. It's fairly likely he is coming here. We aren't going to attract a Slovis, Nix, or Rattler when we run the ball as much as we do and have the OC/QBC who we have. So we have to take the best that we can get to add depth to the position. This will be the guy's sixth season of college football so he's experienced, mature, and knows how to read defenses. We could do worse...

I didn’t want to take the time at the moment, and didn’t have access to any of the sophisticated data… but you done some of it for me, so… Our QBs last year, on a scale of 1-10 were a 3.5… not very good, assuming 5 is an average NCAA FBS Starting QB… we need someone who is a 7 or better and BB is a five at best… I won’t be upset if he comes to State, just not all that excited about it…
