Very droll, Bob. Actually, this guy was so over the top that I was afraid he was going to have a heart attack right there on camera.
If you are expecting a vigorous defense of Glenn Beck, forget it. At first, I thought that Glenn Beck was kind of a clown. Then, when he began his regular show on Fox, I decided that I had underestimated him. He knows a lot more and thinks a lot more than I at first thought.
Lately, he has lost me a bit due to the conspiracy factor which has taken hold of his show almost every day. I agree with him that Barack Obama is harming this country. I also agree with him that Obama has chosen some very strange, out-of-the-mainstream characters to be his advisers. I am not willing to assume, as he seems to, that there is a grand conspiracy afoot.
The bad part is that one does not have to have a conspiracy to do great harm. All one needs to cause trouble is to have in positions of authority powerful people who share the same bad ideas.
But the clip you link to does Beck a disservice in one way. Beck, though he is not a college graduate, is a voracious reader who believes in the American Revolution and its great product, the U.S. Constitution. Furthermore, he believes that everyone should inform himself of the basic principles and personalities of that era.
For instance, yesterday he had on his TV show two academics who discussed a little remembered figure from the 18th Century, namely George Whitfield. Beck believes that Whitfield in part laid the groundwork for the Revolution. You can agree with that or not. (In case you are not familiar with Whitfield, do some research and draw your own conclusions.) With the exception of one throwaway joke at Obama's expense, this was a serious intellectual discussion, the kind which one used to see regularly on Wm. Buckley's Firing Lne.
My point is this. Glenn Beck has a serious interest in history and how history has shaped our country. By way of contrast, let me add that I have seldom heard Rush Limbaugh say anything that would indicate that he reads much.
It's easy to caricature the man, as your clip indicates. But that clip serves only to marginalize a man who, though some of his beliefs and conclusions are controversial, is a person of more substance that what is conveyed by a biased TV comedy show.

AzWm Actually I am shocked that the Right tolerates a guy who cries on TV over George Washington (or fill in the blank). If someone on the left did that.....oh my . I actually would not be surprised at all to see Beck cry over the cancellation of Ozzie & Harriet. I mean what was more "Americana" than Ozzie & Harriet? Beck, like all good talk show hosts, exploits the extremes.....and he should know since he went from begin a drug and alcohol addict to Mormonism, which is about as extreme as you can get. If he was not doing what he does now, I think he would have been a televangelist or have started a cult. I think the guy has a screw loose....however acknowledging he is talented and can manipulate an audience. p.s. William, I guess he knows US history, but I have heard him talk about environmental issues... and he is in Limbaugh's league on that subject anyway.

What shocks me is that anyone gives a $#!+ what any of these talking heads have to say.
Especially the lefties, who seem to listen to them religiously, and seem to be able to quote everything they say. What kind of pathetic, insecure person would jump into his car after a workout in the gym and turn on some radio jerk who they hate? What inspires such behavior? Paranoia?

Come to think of it, I have never had a radio or the TV tuned or preset so that Olbermann or Maddow come up. Maybe we have a closet Conservative on our hands and he is fighting it with all his might but is losing ground.

Very droll, Bob. Actually, this guy was so over the top that I was afraid he was going to have a heart attack right there on camera. AzWm He's a comedian and he's always over the top. But that aside, he's also Jewish and I can't think of anything that would be more insulting to a Jew than trivializing Nazism in the way Beck does it by claiming everything Obama does approaches what Hitler did. Hell, the right wing has gone nuts for years whenever the left has called something they've done "fascist". I'm aware of Whitfield because he was one of the founders of Methodism, but he also came at it with a Calvinist bent and we were taught in Sunday School that predestination was nonsense (do some reading on the Social Gospel to understand what I was taught). But I did take another look at him and he did influence people although he never called for the colonies to toss out the English but rather argued in favor of religious freedom since he hated the Anglican Church. But all that aside, This or that "intellectual discussion" Beck has from time to time is nothing compared to the amount of time he spends attacking Obama by claiming here that he's a Nazi and there that he's a Communist. And anyone who believes anything that paranoid nut job says is an idiot. =Bob

I don't listen to Right wing radio... I was interested in what the Right was saying about the oil spill (since its in my area of interest) so I was dialing around. Paronoid?... I thought that was you worrying about the Government all the time ...crashing through your front door to take your guns away?

Well, as I said, I don't know what Hannity said, so I can't comment. If you say he put out bad info, I'll take your word for it. All of these people, including the so-called main stream media, ought to be taken with a grain of salt. They all have agendas. I take two newspapers. The Washington Times (right-wing) and the SF Chronicle (left-wing). Although they both loudly complain they are totally objective, they are not. Bias can be seen in what they DON'T cover as much as what they do. Actually I get three other papers, but they are small locals. Two Alameda weeklys and the weekly Georgetown Gazette from the gold country. The letters sections of these are most amusing.

They, at least, allow the views of both sides to be heard as opposed to one such as Limbaugh.

BTW, Beck has announced he will reveal his 100 year plan for America (which he has suggested, from clips I've seen that Colbert has shown, was given to him by God) on August 28th at the Lincoln Memorial.
Google on "august 28, 1963 lincoln memorial" and see what pops up.
