What I mentioned last week has made one more progression. We are remaining status quo with a nugatory offense. The defense may allow us to stumble through the remainder of the season. That may get us into a bowl wherein we must deal with a "real" team, who'll lance this pustulant, bulging and pulsing boil, some call an "offense". I read that as "we might lose to a better team later and I am scared so I'll just admit defeat now." You're soft. |

Hecklinski has been trash since the day he stepped on campus. We went cheap on salary and have paid the price ever since no creativity, no qbs, running game has gotten worse
He is the "QB" Coach. Enough. Regressed? Wait...so there was a time they were better? They've always been bad. Same with every Aztec QB who left since he arrived. How are they doing? So their new QB coaches couldn't do it either. So maybe they just had no talent to develop to begin with. Now about the single HS QB he brought in? 4th to 2nd on the depth chart. That does take development. You guys make me defend Heck like he's some offensive genius 😆 I'm just saying your blame is misplaced. |

This team plays defense as well as pretty much any Aztec defense since John Madden was coordinating. I have to think we have a good shot at running the table.

We struggled to get 227 yards TOTAL, against a mediocre team.
Hawaii managed 260 against us.
Sad.

Nevada struggled to beat SJSU. Boise looked great against Fresno, but lost to Hawaii and AF. We’ll be in every game - we could lose 2, but we could also win 3. And what if we win 3, even if they’re ugly wins? See the possibilities. Support our 8-1 ranked football team. Go Aztecs! This right here. 8-1 is 8-1. My opinion… Lucas makes too many mistakes and I’d much rather see a Haskell in there because he can do way more with a more limited playbook than the other QBs. Both will make mistakes, but Haskell is faster and has a way better arm. |

Terrible play calling, our best play was a fake field goal where the qb wasn’t even involved. There are probably 250 better qbs in the nation better then Johnson. Any mediocre qb can be put out there and throw for less then a 100 yards. And rush for 29 yards. |

I believe that the NCAA has still not implemented a system that awards points for style.
Are they difficult to watch at times? Sure they are.
This is almost the reverse of the Lugie years, where the offense could score on anyone, but couldn't stop anyone. The difference then was that the wins were not there.
8-1 with three to go. The team is what the team is at this point. Get the running game going, have Lucas hit his 12 of 16 and bank on special teams. That is the way it will be to the finish.
As Margo Channing (Betty Davis) said in "All about Eve": "fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride".

This line of thinking would be much more cogent, IF the schedule were reversed, and we were still at 8-1. It does seem like your avatar and the team are both Sisyphus struggling up the hill with that boulder. It's hard not to cover one's eyes at the inevitable. |

Aztecs win all 3 of their remaining games and get SC in a bowl game. USC has to beat two of Cal, UCLA and BYU to even become bowl eligible. The Cal game should be a gimme considering half their team will be out with COVID. Trojans will be underdogs in the other ones. |

The season has been successful. But whether the Aztecs are 11-1 or 6-6, they will end up in a lower tier bowl game. It is what it is. Having said that, it certainly is far better then those losing years and no bowl games.

So many fun games full of electricity and dynamite. Quite the opposite of now. Judging by the crowds at games, I don't think people really care about an 8-1 team that is not entertaining. Every game is oral dentistry with these guys, there's no beauty, no electricity, no snap, sizzle or pop. I don't think the crowds will be there after opening day next year. Because it's dour, grim, joyless football. Look, I like defense, it's my preference. But years of this juvenile offense have really left me not feeling it. Week in and week out of what, IMO, can best be dubbed as uninspired buffoonery makes me think I nobody cares, even the coaching staff. Just roll out some offensive schlock and get a lead. And then, given ANY lead, Brady Hoke becomes then hen sitting on the egg, nursing it like not even Marty Shottenheimer ever did. Everybody loves a swashbuckler, a leader with derring to do in his eye. Hoke is a scared little accountant. Frankly, I think the standards have fallen so far, after YEARS of this, the coaching staff doesn't even feel the need to be better on offense. It's the Aztec brand. Great defense and crap offense. It's a 'we are who we are' mentality, and who they are has to lean back and look up to see even the mediocre level. Winning like this is not viable for the program. Fans are not gonna pay to see this kind of anti-entertainment. Just my opinion. I could be wrong. Cheers and GO AZTECS. |
