Freddie Freeman is a FA and although unlikely to move anywhere, he does get along with the guys if what I saw when they met up holds true.

And his kid LOVES Fernando…
Hopefully his son gets the nag going this winter. We can hope, can't we?

I wouldn't mind--at all--having Freeman play here. Unfortunately, we can't afford him.

Possibilities: Andrew Vaughn, Ty France, Trey Mancini, Josh Naylor, Luke Voit, Bobby Dalbec, move Wil Myers back there.
The position is not as loaded as it used to be. Freeman, Goldschmidt, Alonzo, Abreu…..LeMahieu, then it kind of drops off to .230 ish hitters.
Is bringing back Hosmer not an option? The rumors of trading him kind of started the Padres circling the drain last season.

Probably Cronenworth is our first basemen next year, and Frazier is at 2B.

I wonder what it would take to get France back in the fold. France and Cronenworth would be a good combo on the right side, both are going into the prime of their careers.
It’s too bad the Reds extended a qualifying offer to Nick Castellanos, that’s the guy I would like to replace Pham or Myers with.

He suffered a pretty bad lower leg injury too.

I don't think the Padres will spend too aggressively in FA, as they are going to be pretty close to the luxury tax threshold with existing commitments.
Clevinger returning from injury of course, but I would like to see Preller sign a reliable, innings eating SP with a track record ---- and invest in the bullpen also.
You saw the World Series, in the modern game you see managers going to their bullpen as early as the 4th or 5th inning and rotating through a cycle of power arm flame throwers.

Seidler has said multiple times they will go into the tax and beyond if required. Should be a fascinating offseason with the CBA fiasco.

Yes, he is going into the market! I would make Castellanos FA priority #1, numero uno etc. Another power bat in the lineup and a steady veteran presence in the clubhouse is exactly what this team needs. Hit him behind Machado and watch the deluge of run production flood Petco Park.

Hit him behind Machado and watch the deluge of run production flood Petco Park. He's supposed to be a bit of a hack in the field, but he sure can hit. Though, he has been playing in a friendly park. I'd take him if the price is right. ---- Nick Castellanos Five years, $115 million 2021 stats: .309/.362/.576 slash line in 138 games His glove is as useful as a (locates an article titled “The 12 most pointless things ever invented”) pre-peeled banana in a plastic wrapper, a pet rock or a shoe umbrella. Per Statcast’s Outs Above Average metric, only Colorado’s Charlie Blackmon graded out worse as a right fielder. Castellanos can rake, though, and despite it seeming like he’s been in the league since, well, “Finding Nemo” sat atop the box office charts, he’s only 29. He established a career high with 34 home runs last season — yes, he played in the homer-friendly Great American Ball Park — and added 38 doubles. Castellanos opted out of the two years and $34 million remaining on his contract with the Reds and rejected their qualifying offer, so he has his sights set on something more lucrative. The Athletic

Im a bit out of the loop on that. CBA negotiations ongoing, yeah? The anticipation is that the DH will be universal next season, but if you're reading the tea leaves and the quotes that are coming out of Carlsbad today, this is going to be a long, chaotic offseason.

Is there going to be a DH in the NL in ‘22? I hope so. Never was a DH fan until 2020 and realized I didn't miss watching pitchers bat one bit.
