Look at Biden. He must have 100 years of political experience but he got to be one of worst president in modern history. Experience means nothing if you don't show it when it matter the most.

Of course you would say that. I prefer to condemn both. Look, let's say that we are considering two arsonists. Would you think more highly of arsonist number two if he had only set 10 fires, whereas number one had set 20? Trump and Biden are both examples of a representative government at its worst. I have on several occasions posted my criticisms of Donald Trump. Biden is busy displaying why he is not an improvement. In the current situation, the really scary thing is that it's obvious that those who supported Biden well understood the man's manifest weaknesses. His one and only strength was that he was not Donald Trump. Did you see today's Senate hearing? If not, you ought to find a video and watch it carefully. It was instructive listening to three senior generals (2 serving, the third now Sec. of Def) in effect calling the POTUS a liar. Ryan, you are not stupid. You know that if Biden is this incompetent and dishonest for three more years, even the negative influence of Donald Trump (which the Democrats pray will continue) will put the GOP in control of the White House and Congress. I don't think Biden is anything special, but he's an absolute upgrade over the previous corrupt administration, one of the worst in modern history. Biden is obviously not without his flaws or misgivings.

AzWm Also, it would help if you didn't start with "Of course you would say that." Everything I assert is backed up by factual reasoning, not just wanton speculation and hearsay. Right off the bat, you try to undermine that by making it about my perspective instead of the truth. The truth is we will likely never fully grasp how corrupt the previous administration was. It was on a comprehensive level we've never seen before in modern history. It's not a simple evaluation, either. It's a calculated, well-reasoned critique of how the White House became a propaganda machine to spread misinformation, an obscene amount of Hatch Act violations, corruption, extortion, bribery, et al. We literally had a coup attempt less than nine months ago. How is this debatable?

Of course you would say that. The Dems can only get so far shouting Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump. Joe Biden is the POTUS now. He could start making things better by not lying. I would have more respect for him if the just admitted (A) that perhaps he should have anticipated how badly the Afghanistan pullout was going to be and (B) yes, that some of his advisors did suggest that we should leave about 2500 troops in country. He could say, and reasonably so, that he decided to overrule those who made that recommendation. People understand that even the best decision maker sometimes screws up. We do not demand 100% good decisions. But when such a decision maker then lies, people are not happy. It's not so much that Biden made a mistake. It's that he refuses to take responsibility. AzWm

AzWm Patently false. He took responsibility, on camera, explicitly stating that he "would not pass this responsibility on to a fifth president." Any criticism of the situation requires acknowledgement that the previous administration handcuffed the Biden administration with the release of Abdul Ghani Baradar and the meeting between Pompeo and Baradar that brokered the deal to expedite the removal of troops in Afghanistan. On the list of possible grievous offenses, it doesn't come close to the previous administration's recklessness and disregard for the law, public safety and integrity of the office of president. I'm glad you've not abandoned this forum completely after you refused to offer up an explanation for the host of questions related to January 6th. But this haphazard attempt to put the Biden and Trump administrations on some kind of equal footing is more absurdity on your part. You're not a Republican, so you say, but this strategy is identical to the moral outrage and pearl clutching that the GOP wants to engage in over this. If we're concerned about a president "lying"....Uh, yeah, that doesn't move the needle at all when you compare it with the 18,000 lies of the previous administration that conveniently get glossed over.

The POTUS has said he "does not recall being advised that 2500 troops should be left in Afghanistan." The Sec of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and the head of Centcom all testified under oath that, yes, such advice was told to the President.
Here again, the problem is not that the Pres overruled the three aforementioned officials. I think that his decision, at least in the manner in which it was carried out, was flawed. But he definitely had the authority to make his own decision. He could have said, "Yes, some of my advisors did make that recommendation, but I decided to rule otherwise." One could have objections to the decision, but not to the fact that he, as POTUS, he had the authority to make that call.
What has happened is two-fold. First, Biden denies having been advised by some of his top people to leave 2,500 troops in Afghanistan. One of three things must therefore be true.
First, that all three officials who testified under oath that they did in fact recommend to the POTUS against pulling out all troops (at least so soon) are lying.
Second, that Joe Biden is flat out lying.
Third, that Joe Biden does not actually remember that three of his top advisors recommended, only a short time ago, that 2,500 troops be left in country.
Pick your poison. If option one is true, the three men who lied to Congress should be fired. Both of the remaining options have serious implications. I'm not sure which is worse, that the President of the United States is deliberately lying to the American people, or that he is incapable of remembering such an important, and relatively recent, recommendation by the three generals (one retired). The three in question are not just three strangers walking in off the street. We are talking about three very senior and decorated military men.
I want to again emphasize that this is not a question of whether we should have left Afghanistan. There are arguments both ways. And it is not so much how the withdrawal was done. It is whether someone at the upper tier of national leadership is deliberately lying to the American people. Well, if option number three is true, it becomes a question not of lying but whether the man in the Oval Office is mentally competent.
I have more to say, but will end for now.

AzWm If you're concerned with the POTUS "lying" to the American people, can we have the same standard of integrity for the previous administration's subversion of the Constitution, the rule of law and the Oval Office? We had a mentally incompetent perennial huckster inhabit the Oval for four years prior to this and you didn't seem to bat an eyelash. You were more concerned about the insurrectionists than the people behind the scenes that orchestrated January 6th. On the list of things I worry about, leaving troops in Afghanistan and who advised what isn't on it. This wasn't a binary situation, either. There were a range of opinions and advice that weren't uniform in nature. It's not as simple as "leave 2,500 troops or zero." Long story short, this is moral high ground nonsense by the GOP to manufacture and divert attention away from their behavior. It never fails. They want to talk about "false statements" and other drivel while taking zero accountability for their own failures. It's pearlclutching at its finest.

My god, Ryan, check your calendar. It's the end of September, 2021. Donald Trump could be the worst human being who ever lived, but saying so yet again would not be a reasonable response to the question of why three of the current President's most senior advisors have, in effect, testified under oath that their boss lied to the American people.
Maybe in your opinion the clear possibility that the sitting President lied is no big deal. It is to me, and I suspect that millions of Americans agree with me.
As I have posted before, shouting Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump does not answer every question. Joe Biden has to stand on his own and cannot blame everything on his predecessor.

AzWm Ah, yes, the old "he isn't president anymore" excuse right on time. With regards to this specific situation, the wheels were set in motion far before Biden took office. That's just a fact. I don't care if millions of people agree with you, that doesn't strengthen your argument at all. I don't live in a world where I'm naive to political realities. I just expect you to hold every president to the same standard. Asking too much?
