So where is Towson you ask? It is in the suburbs about 12-13 miles north of Baltimore. They are the only college in the United States which has won
Championships in Div. 11, Div.111, and even though they have yet to win one in the FCS they have been in the playoffs a few times.
Their stadium is the third largest capacity in the Baltimore Metro area. Right behind the Orioles, and the Ravens stadiums. It holds 11,198
and you won't believe the name of the stadium. I'm not going to hold you in suspense. It is called Johnny Unitas Stadium, after the NFL great QB
Johnny U. But, no Johnny Unitas never went to school or played for them at all. But, he did have three of his children attend Towson.
Johnny Unitas served as community liaison for Tiger Athletics. His role was to assist in obtaining a naming rights partner for the University's
new stadium. He died less than a week after tossing his last pass to commemorate the opening of Towson's new stadium at ceremonies on Sept.5,
2002.
His wife, Sandy Unitas, assumed her husband's role with Towson. With Johnny's 2 youngest children as Towson students, Sandy sought to
memorialize her husband's legacy on campus by having the stadium named after him, and so it was named Johnny Unitas Stadium.
Now for the Towson team. The HC is Rob Ambrose and he has been there for 12 seasons. He also attended Towson and played for them.
For those of you who may think that the Tigers will be an easy team to beat let me throw some info at you. Towson Tigers have not just one or
two transfers from FBS schools they have over 18 transfers from schools like Florida, Penn St., Purdue, So. Carolina., No. Carolina, Pittsburg, Virginia,
Rutgers, Kansas, Maryland, Marshall, Arizona St., and even one from Hoke's old school, Ball St. So, I would say they know how to stand up and play
without being afraid of anyone.
They lost to North Dakota St. last week, 35-7, but Towson scored the final TD in that game, and they had just as many passing yards as NDS had, 165 on 19
of 28 passes which was better than North Dakota St. who was 6 of 12.
