I thought the minor league system was the cream of the crop. Sounds like the fall guys will follow not the leader

Anyone notice the pitching number for a couple ex-Padres? Eric Lauer IP 107 ERA 3.03 Whips 1.14 Cal Quantrill IP 143 ERA 2.77 Whips 1.17 (and that's in the hitter-friendly AL)
Anyone notice the hitting numbers for a couple ex-Padres? Hunter Renfroe .260 BA 28 HRs 91 RBI Franmil Reyes .258 BA 30 HRs 80 RBI Luis Urias .249 BA 21 HRs 70 RBI

I think the Indians got the better in both deals: 1) Franmil Reyes for Taylor Trammell (them Trammell and Ty France for Nola, Adams and Altavilla) 2) Clevinger for Quantrill, Hedges and Naylor (it remains to be seen if Clevinger was worth it)

It was before they traded 30 players. Ryan - looking at the entire organization, what are you most disappointed about after this debacle of a season? I'm really not even that disappointed, honestly. Objectively speaking, it sucks to underperform to an extent, but I'm probably most disappointed in this organization not being willing to just cut bait with dead weight and admit they made a mistake signing certain players. The season torpedoed itself at the deadline, seemingly because they placated to a certain player's clout in the clubhouse. Injuries have decimated this team and that's also really unfortunate, too.

Are you saying that keeping Hosmer was a bigger detriment to the club than the injuries, etc....? Sounds like it in your post since you highlighted it.

Are you saying that keeping Hosmer was a bigger detriment to the club than the injuries, etc....? Sounds like it in your post since you highlighted it. Yes. Injuries are part of the natural attrition of a truncated season to a full 162 game calendar. This team was 15 games over .500 in late July and then imploded after a deadline where they failed to get pitching and the rumored rumblings about moving Hosmer at basically any cost necessary. An emotionally fragile clubhouse couldn't deal with their "leader" being dealt due to a lack of on-field production and they fell apart as a result. Refusing to just DFA Hosmer and eat the money compounds the problem, especially when he's going to get shopped again in the offseason.

Quantrill has been much better than I expected. That being said, no org in baseball really develops SP's like CLE does.
Not sure if Naylor is going to hit, and he suffered a season ending injury so wont know until 2022.
