Just when you think things can't get much worse, the Padres manage to get no hit.
A day to remember for one rookie Diamondback, a week to forget for Padres fans.
Hopefully this is indeed rock bottom and things will turn around starting tomorrow. But with a BP game on tap, I kinda doubt it.
Padres find themselves in serious straits right now, and seemingly have no leadership - internally or otherwise - to get them out of it.

While I'm glad to have Tatis back, I worry about the rest of the season. We had a long stretch of games against the bottom feeders but didn't come close to taking advantage of it. ESPN today listed all the NL contenders with the number of games the rest of the season against the worst 7.5 teams. (Arizona, Baltimore, Cubs, Kansas City, Pirates, Rangers, Nationals and Colorado on the road (the .5 team))
24 games Phil 19 games Cin 14 games All 12 games LA 8 games Mets 6 games Milwk 6 games SF 3 games Padres
We have 19(!) games left against the Giants and Dodgers. We can definitely determine our own fate against those two but I have so little faith in our starting pitching and timely hitting that I wonder if we'll be even able to hold off Cin or someone from the NL East. I'm not waving the white flag but I'm making sure I know where it is if I need it.

The Padres have ample opportunities to knock out the top two in the weeks ahead. It's ideal scheduling - let them duke it out (not Duke Snyder).
There won't be any excuses if they don't play top-level baseball - but the same can be said for the other two teams. Unfortunately, the Padres start out in a fairly deep hole of their own digging, but H2H wins can make up for that quickly.

That would be one of those words … The weird thing is I believe we have a better record against the Dodgers and maybe Giants, than we do against the bottom feeders. I know we can't rely on that factor down the stretch, but maybe we're just more focused against the top teams. It all comes down to pitching, I think, now that we have Tatis back for more offense.

At a quick glance, we're 7-3 vs. Dodgers, 9-7 vs. Arizona (.563), 8-8 vs. Colorado & 4-5 vs. SF, or 11-8 (.579) vs. the top of the division & 17-15 (.531) vs. the bottom. If those were reversed I doubt many would be as frustrated.

Guess the Padres haven't hit rock bottom yet - they're just horrible right now. No other term for it.
Other teams are playing some of their best baseball of the season. It's hard to tell what the Padres are doing right now besides losing.

Padres pitching staff is beaten up physically.
It kind of amazes me that even if we are to get a wild card slot and win the wild card game, we would be facing a similar situation to last year where we have a deiminated rotation vs. a really good team in the Giants. I didn't think that was possible given the trades that we made over the offseason, and the pitchers that we brought back, but...
This Padres team should have a better record then it does. One thing that this season has shown is the lack of starting pitching (depth) in the Padres farm system.
Would love to see this addressed via trade - you can still do minor league prospect trades! Deal Campusano + some minor prospects for a good starting pitcher prospect that's close, and throw them into the fire at the MLB level. Got to be better then Arrieta... I'm already cringing in anticipation of his Wednesday start

I'm already cringing in anticipation of his Wednesday start Well Arrieta's start came and went, and who knows how bad his injury will be. We may get lucky and not need to cringe any more for that one, anyway. But it just further dilutes the pitching that's left. I'd be ok with decimation at this point, at least the Padres would still have 9 solid pitchers left! I guess besides rock bottom, the Padres have now hit Rockies Bottom…

A month later, and it almost happened again. If not for Hosmer's double, it would've been another no-hitter - with them as the losers. They still lost the game, though, and that gave the Dogs a sweep.
