Seven games in just a little more than a week (home and home). Each team gets a 3 game series in-between.
Ideally, they beat each other up and the Padres sneak up on them with a few wins of their own.
So far the Dodgers and Giants are doing their part.
Jansen blows a save in game two and the mini-series is now tied at 1-1. He's having his own troubles - again.

Back to back blown saves and outstanding games. Reminded me a lot of our series in LA.
Obviously the best overall outcome for us would be they beat up on each other, we win & move up further into the hunt for 1st. That said, I keep going back & forth on which of the 2 I'd prefer to win the series, if 1 were to dominate? Assume 1 of the 2 takes the West, would we rather play SF or LA in a 1-game playoff? Darvish vs. Buehler/Kershaw/Bauer, or Darvish vs. DeSciafani/Gausman? Healthy, I think LA's the better team so would prefer to face SF. However, thinking further ahead, which of the 2 teams would you rather face in a 5 game series vs. a 1 game series and IMO that's SF. Given all that, I hope they beat each other up & we catch them, but if not Go Giants!

With so much randomness attributed to one outcome, that's your best chance to advance. That said, I don't think the division is out of reach with how many matchups are left.

Yep, that's exactly my conclusion as noted. And agree, this is going into Sept.... I kind of see this similar to a major golf tournament in that Saturday = Moving day, and Saturday = August. Sunday is for they money, which is September. Hopefully we use our scheduling advantages in August to "move" us into a great position heading into Sept.

I'm not going to lie, as I don't like the September/October schedule the Padres have.
We play the Dodgers and Giants 16 times combined, but only 3 of the 16 match-ups are in Petco.

The scheduling program did the Padres no favors here. It'll be tough playing in someone else's house for these big games, but these games are all in California and that makes it easy enough for Padres fans to swarm the games and at least even out the crowd. L.A.'s been doing it for years… One thing that it will for sure do for the Padres is to get them plenty of looks at the two teams they'll have to beat just to get into a NLCS. Couldn't be a better conclusion to the season. Hate the prospect of a one and done, but if they're going to get it done, that's what it always comes down to (unless of course, they manage to run the table).

Jansen is stinkin' up the Ravine again tonight … bases still loaded and now it's all tied up. Roberts gets tossed. LOFL what a horrible call from the first base ump on a check swing third strike that would've ended the game. Giants rally with two outs for 4 runs - Jansen still responsible for two on base - he's gone and gets booed as he leaves the field. Giants lead 5-3.
Oh Doctor!
