20 picks, 20 pitchers, 19 college pitchers. Guess they figure if they hit on 1 in 4 they're set, but where do they put them?

With the restructuring of the minors, you're limited to 180 players in the organization at maximum. A lot of teams went with a college heavy approach because of the shortened draft and the cap of players. Most organizations will need to fill in depth at the upper levels as a result, since a lot of teams will have to make cuts.

Their GM and scouting head both admitted they are deficient with quality pitching at pretty much all levels of the organization.
I think CLE drafted 5 or 6 college pitchers with their first 6 picks, as well.
I was surprised LAA passed on Rocker from Vanderbilt, though.

A ton of innings on that arm already and the stuff hasn't always matched up to the reputation and profile. Plus, his bonus demands were extremely well known and very high.

Ryan is correct. I've read that, in other articles, etc. But boy, alot of arm potential. What a junior year he had --Only 8 HR in 122 IP, 13 K's per 9 (wow!!), 0.934 WHIP, 2.730 ERA. Against elite competition, too. www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=rocker000kumI think Leiter is the better pitcher tho. He looks like a certain top of the rotation dude, if he stays healthy.

It's incredibly hard to predict what college arms will look like in the pro ranks because of how they are used and abused in college. The lack of pitch counts and any real oversight to protect these arms is one of the worst things about the college game. Rocker threw 236 innings in basically two seasons, plus a fifteen inning cameo. 3,519 pitches over his Vandy career. Leiter threw almost nearly as many as Rocker did this season. In Rocker's no-hitter against Duke in 2019, he threw 131 pitches.

I always found it admirable that when Strasburg was here, TG made it a point to not overuse him and even publicly commented on that more than once. He cared about Stras's future. Though, Stras did still end up with a few arm injuries --- but that's life when it comes to pitching.
