2 SD kids in the top 28 - pretty impressive. When's the last time we had 2 SD HS kids go in round 1? Merrill could end up moving the 2nd, 3rd, OF, etc. - HS SS's just tend to be the best athlete/player on the team so could end up anywhere on the field. Given his size & lack of speed I'd be shocked if he ends up a middle infielder over time. I am finding all the "why would they pick a SS when we have Tatis" posts on FB pretty humorous though.

Merrill was an underslot signee so the Padres could get aggressive in the second round...
Enter James Wood, a 6-foot-7 outfielder from baseball powerhouse IMG Academy. Wood has ridiculous raw power, but struggled in the spring with some swing and miss. Needs some work of his swing, but a really good athlete for his size.

When's the last time we had 2 SD HS kids drafted in round 1? 2014. Brady Aiken #1 overall, and Alex Jackson #6.

Agree with this. Absolutely could end up in OF, or DH once universal.
