The Cardinals came into San Diego, where they have a history of Plaing well, having the second-best record in the National League, and the Padres were going with number three, four, and number five pitchers in the series. But the biggest thing is the Padres starting lineup was missing the starting shortstop the starting first baseman the starting right fielder and someone who would likely have started in left field in addition to one of the first players used as a pinch hitter. With all those factors sweeping the Cardinals was quite a pleasant surprise.

I never bet on the Padres, but if prior to the series someone had forced me to bet big $$$ on whether the Pads would sweep or not, I would have bet it all on "not."

Hopefully there's no hangover effect for the Colorado series, which will be tougher to get up for than the Cards. But we couldn't have asked for a better Game 1 starter to keep the momentum going!

Padres have owned the series as of late, including the postseason, 11 out of 15.

Off to a quick 2-0 start. Machado goes deep!!! That was quite the moon-shot, I don't remember ever seeing a Petco HR ball bounce in the bleachers up to the 2nd deck.
