And that pretty much says it all about the current state of the GOP and the insidious power of Fox News, et al. over the past 25 years. If Fox News is that dangerous, we can't just allow it to continue to poison the American culture. So what, in your opinion, should be done about it? AzWm

If Fox News is that dangerous, we can't just allow it to continue to poison the American culture. So what, in your opinion, should be done about it? AzWm Obvious bait aside, we've had more outrage from Matt Gaetz, Kevin McCarthy and Devin Nunes about a bogus NSA investigation into Tucker Carlson's emails than we've had over an actual insurrection where people died and the former VP was nearly assassinated. We also had a vote where over 100 Republican members of Congress voted to keep Confederate statues in the Capitol. We have mental gymnastics by Kevin McCarthy about how that's the Democrats fault because he's actually ignorant enough to try and fool people : Political ideology and party flipped in the post Civil War Reconstruction era. There's no easy solution because the right will just claim censorship, even though the absolute batshit crazy talking heads on Fox News poison the well on a daily basis. Examples of actual Fox News chyrons : "Going after your guns." "You never knew this about Nancy Pelosi." "Attack on Christianity." The ridiculous hyperbole and the ability to enslave an audience of dummies is not unique to them, but it sure is damaging to the country. Here's my favorite Fox News chyron, from April.

If Fox News is that dangerous, we can't just allow it to continue to poison the American culture. So what, in your opinion, should be done about it? AzWm It is currently illegal for broadcasters to intentionally distort the news. Cable news needs to be classified in this realm for FCC oversight, and NDAs in the profession should be illegal. The FCC can only act with direct information. During the Trump Admin, the FCC also changed a three+ decade old rule that stated no broadcaster could reach more than 39% of households and that local broadcasters no longer needed to have a local studio, allowing Sinclair Broadcasting in particular to monopolize local news. This needs to be overturned immediately and Sinclair purchases should be broken up. In fact, 39% is far too high a number. Just like a good percentage of bad things happening in the country, most of this started in the 80s with Reagan gutting the FCC and fundamentally changing its mission. Oddly enough, the FCC still does content regulation of cable. That's why you can see Q documentaries and Russiagate 16 hours a day, but can't see a titty. You're right in essence, though. There is no answer. The American public is stupid and you can't fix that through regulation of content. That's why we're an empire nearing the end of our slow decline!

Well, declaring that the majority of one's countrymen are stupid, and that their opinions and concerns are not worthy of consideration, probably was not an attitude shared by the Founders. They were eager to create a system that allowed for a government of the people and by the people. They surely must have had a higher opinion of the common man than some have today. Otherwise, they would have created a government ruled by a worthy elite.
I realize, of course, that some Americans today do not have a very high regard for the Founders.

AzWm Are you serious? Of course it was an opinion shared by the founders. I don't even think that is up for debate.

So that is why key Founders wrote and published the Federalist essays in the popular newspapers of their day? Because they didn't consider the opinions of their fellow countryman? Is this a Babylon Bee segment?
