Not really a surprise. Not really heartbreaking, either.

Dean moved the team to LA to up the value of the franchise and then eventually sell. He’s done nothing on his own and this was his chance of creating a greater family fortune. The Spanos family has no money which is why they could never build something on their own in SD. Take away the value of the team and split the remaining fortune up and they are well off but no where near anyone who could even own a MLS team.

Should he eventually sell, I hope the NFL takes the remainder of the owed relocation fee out of the proceeds going to $panos. Then, for allowing the Chargers to move to LA in the first place, The League can go suck eggs.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer owner.

And in case anyone needed further schadenfreude, word is that the first game at SoFi with fans in attendance was a complete $#!+ show, complete with horrific traffic, only one will-call window for the entire stadium, awful concessions, and the cherry on top a huge fan brawl with slow-to-intervene security - good times! #SpanosCanSuckABagOfDs

He can't sell for 10 years after the move per league rules. However, him being the Donald Stern of the NFL they might make an exception.
But, the team will not be coming back to San Diego. Not for, at least, 18 years.
