Too bad for UNLV. The conference needs the Rebels to be good in hoops, or anything for that matter. It really is, and it looks like UNLV's revolving door for basketball HC's is going again. They have had more coaches than I can remember in the past 15 years. If, they could just get someone to stay and work at it for a few years that would be great! Who's next?

The good news for UNLV is that they can start their hire early and will have a pretty full cycle to land a new coach. Well, not exactly. If, a coach they are after is in the NCAA Tournament still, they may have to wait a little.

They should hire Rick Pitino....talk about a perfect city for him! They’d be a match made in heaven! It would be fun seeing father vs son twice a year, and it could happen. UNLV will be fine. It's a terrific program & good job, arguably the 2nd best job in the conference. Awesome facilities; good tradition. They'll land someone very good.

True, they have landed some very good coaches. The main thing is to get them to stay and help build the program back up like it use to be.

This could be a blessing in disguise for UNLV. The buyout on the T.J. contract is currently at 3.1 million dollars. UNLV basketball recently received an 8 million dollar donation from a booster just a month ago. Plenty of money available to make a good hire if they want to.

Getting the coaches hasn't been an issue as you know. Now keeping them seems to be the bigger issue and the right coach will be huge and it sounds like they have plenty of money to pay a P5 salary. Good for them and I hope they get a great coach and he stays.

Would like to see UNLV really make an effort to land a top quality coach and put (legal) resources behind program. As many have said UNLV is our natural partner to be picked up in Conference realignment. What about Cal State Fresno?

UNLV was a powerhouse in basketball very early in the program’s 52 year history. Every program has a few down years from time to time. SDSU stunk from 1985-2001, 16 years of sub .500 seasons.
A good coaching hire could right the Rebel’s ship by next season.

3 of the Top Candidates for the U of Minnesota position are from the MWC. They are listing Dutcher plus the Utah State and Colorado State Coaches, AND former head coach of Nevada (Musselman).
One article I saw thought Dutcher was a longer shot, unless they could entice him with a significant pay raise. I really wonder how seriously Dutcher will consider this? SDSU is now a top National Program and his baby that he helped build. I believe he has now lived in San Diego longer than he ever lived in Minnesota. I wonder if SDSU is able to fatten Dutch's pay check even more to show how much they want to keep him long-term.

I wonder if SDSU is able to fatten Dutch's pay check even more to show how much they want to keep him long-term. I definitely want Dutcher to stay. He’s shown me he’s a very good coach, tons of continuity from Coach Fisher (in all good ways)... he can coach here until he wants to retire as far as I’m concerned. The program is built on class, culture, work ethic, unselfishness, toughness and family. The values here and the people here ... the staff to the players are first rate. They win at a high level and really do it the right way. With that said, Dutcher could leave. We don’t really know, any guesses are speculation. JDW better have a plan B, a plan C, a plan D ... etc. in addition, these plans better be rock solid. Aztec basketball is a high value, incredible asset. That value is contingent on us being a top Program with national appeal. After last season and this, we are there. Should we get a run to the Elite 8, that value grows even more. This value is fragile ... it can go away pretty quickly. 2-3 lousy years under the wrong coach is all it takes. We can’t afford to muck this up should Dutch decide to leave. Hopefully he is in love with what he’s helped create plus having us on the cusp of another level. Combine that with having the income to have a great lifestyle in one the best places there is to live, I hope that carries the day.

If they hire Rick Pitino he then needs to hire Larry Eustachy as an assistant. This would help distract from how sleazy Pitino’s behavior has been.

or maybe a Proven Sleazbag with plenty of baggage that will win you games but could jeopardize your program for many years!
