As much as I hate to admit it, USU sure has had our number the past few years. Didn't the Aztecs sweep the regular season last year?

SDSU has never won the regular season championship and the MWC tournament in the same year. 2011? 2011 SDSU and BYU shared the title. 2006 SDSU won the regular season title outright and the tournament championship.

We get to the game but can’t finish on a consistent basis. Probably why the AP voters kept us at 19 because they know we won’t win the tournament this week.

If I'm not mistaken none of the teams directly above us lost ? That may have had something to do with us not moving up after beating UNLV

I don’t think this team is crazy deep. I know some on the board disagree but Butler’s been struggling, Seiko was in a big shooting funk since coming back from injury and who knows what Arops health is at. Keshad has his moments but is inconsistent, I do think tomiac has been pretty consistent. A key as meantioned is to blowout whoever we face in round 1, and we did blow those teams out every time we faced them. Boise State and Nevada will likely be a very close game. I agree with you. Butler is a very, very good freshman and I feel very, very confident he is going to lead this team very effectively over the coming years, but he has not played as strongly/confidently against the better teams to end the year. No shame in that, though. Seiko is a good backup guard, and I am confident in his decision-making. If he isn't feeling it, he doesn't force his shot. Rarely (maybe never this year?) have I seen him take a bad shot. And his defense is above average on this team. I'm assuming anything we get out of Arop until next year is a bonus. Unfortunately, you can't plan around a guy who may not be available on any given night. Luckily he isn't someone the offense runs through and his contributions are mostly defense, rebounding, and effort. He can get into a flow offensively and when he does, we are that much more dangerous. But agree again, he's a big fat ? the rest of the way. Keshad and Tomiac are where I've noticed some struggles lately. Keshad flashes potential and has been rebounding hard lately, which is good. But he's a step slow on defense still and gets out of position too often, and has trouble making anything happen on the offensive end. Tomiac is serviceable, but on both ends Nathan is a difference maker. Nathan's P&R has been nails with Trey, and he's our only defensive anchor behind the team on defense. When he goes out, our inside game on both ends struggles. As long as Nathan is playing assertively and doesn't pick up ticky tack fouls (either his own fault or via trash MW refs, both happen), I'm high on our chances to win a game or two in the tourney. For MW tournament and NCAA tournament purposes, I'm confident in our starting five plus Lamont/Seiko. Substantial minutes for guys past that rotation puts a HUGE burden on our shooters to make their shots, often more contested. Writing this, I'm convincing myself that Arop's health may end up pretty important.

If you're only looking at offense, I would agree, except that Tomaic and Keshad look much improved on the offensive and defensive end over mid-season form. Butler's team defense skills have improved, while his offense has regressed badly. Seiko's defense has been stout as usual. Arop has been completely unreliable, but when he plays he provides energy and contributions on offense and/or defense.

He still has a bad habit of just tossing up shots near the basket when he's being double/triple teamed. He needs to either go up strong and hope he's fouled, dribble back out, or kick it out to the perimeter. I agree with the rest, though I think Tomaic has usually been more than servicable. I think his play off the bench has been vital to our success.

It goes through SDSU almost like a water pipe. Not much more than 30% resistance.

SDSU has never won the regular season championship and the MWC tournament in the same year. Oh, yes we have! We won our first regular season and the conference tournament championship in 2006. We left everyone behind! That team was lead by our all-time leading scorer Brandon Heath along with Marcus Slaughter. First team we had that was able to win both the regular season and MWC Tournament!

As much as I hate to admit it, USU sure has had our number the past few years. True, but the team which has really given us the most problems is New Mexico! They own a 4-2 mark against us all-time in MW Tournament play, including a 2-1 mark in the Championship game!

(As I learned after getting married, be very careful when using words like "always" and "never". haha) I was also corrected by AzTex that SDSU was co-champion with BYU in 2011, and tournament champion that same year.

Tough to play the level of defense we play for three straight days. Hopefully we boat race Wyoming or San Jose State and Keshad, Seiko, Butler and (a hopefully healthy) Arop play a ton of minutes. Play MM and Schakel like 20 minutes each and keep those legs fresh for jump shots in games 2 and 3. This. Have been thinking and hoping for a game 1 super blow out win. Get the starters out early and save the wear and tear on those legs in game 1.

We get to the game but can’t finish on a consistent basis. Probably why the AP voters kept us at 19 because they know we won’t win the tournament this week. When you get to the Championship game you can't expect to always win it, especially when you have a very good opponent. Just think, there are 9 to 10 teams in the MWC who would love it just to get there once to play in it. Very few ever make it, and we have been there more than anyone else. We have won our share, and we will probably make it again this season.
