Does his top 3 tweet spelled WAS mean anything? He plays at WASatch Academy. It means a lot to him.

This guy clearly doesn't know much about the Aztecs or the fact that Lamont Butler exists: The article is titled: "NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing final 4 teams for four-star Koren Johnson" But then in his first paragraph says "the western-based recruit is down to three options; Arizona, San Diego State, and Washington." This dude can't count and clearly knows nothing about Aztec basketball, Trey or Lamont.

What he's not wrong about is all 3 teams offer the opportunity for immediate PT.

And I didn't get anything from that article which leads me to believe they're less confident. Zeigler just said UW is making a push for Johnson & SMC for Byrd, but they were beforehand as well. We'll see where they end up, but I'm hopeful we'll get at least 1 of 2 & potentially both. Just depends on what they prioritize when choosing their destination, which is always the case.

If Koren comes to SDSU, he is likely the starting point guard as a freshmen… I know Dutch says get old and stay old, but he has also said that they are only recruiting impact players at the high school level this year amd Koren is just that.
No question that in accordance with Aztec basketball, he would have to earn the starting job, but he is being recruited to do just that.

And I don't think Butler is a good enough shooter to be strong as a shooting guard.

You can be an impact player as the 6th, 7th or even 8th man. I think it's very unlikely Saunders starts next year, but he'll make an impact. With any player under Dutch they have to earn the complete trust of the coach which, or Dutch, tends to be the more mature players. My expectation would be for Johnson to come in, fight for a starting spot, but ultimately at least start out playing similar minutes to what Butler did last year. Enough where he knows he'll be in the rotation & the future of the team, but not have to carry the load as a FR. The only way I see him starting is if he's a lights out shooter from deep, which doesn't appear to be the case right now (yet). Don't forget Bradley and/or Seiko could choose to return in '23, although I doubt either does. If either does, then the minutes just got tighter for Johnson. The only 1 of his 3 finalists where I see him very likely to start is UW, and only if they see Fuller more as a 2 than a 1 or if Bey leaves.

Agree with everything you said… and yes rotation player is at least somewhat significant. However, what I have been told is that they see all three guys as first year rotation guys and Koren as a starter, clearly it would depend on potential Butler improvements, etc. What I wrote earlier is less about what I think and more about what I have been told from folks I trust.

I don’t doubt those three guys would and could be a very good players, but I doubt the Dutcher or his staff has told any of them that they will for sure be playing X number of minutes. And how many times have you seen three high school studs come in and play a ton of minutes on a high functioning national team? That is, unless you’re talking about Kentucky North Carolina and Duke just reloading every year.

Many long years ago Dutcher was part of a team that started five Freshman at Michigan. It works if they are good enough.

I did not say that Dutch & Co are saying these guys will get X, he has never said anything like that. What I said is that Dutch has publicly said that he is only recruiting impact freshmen, based on his other statements that mean at least rotation players. I also stated that from trusted sources, Koren has a real shot to start and. It just be a rotation guy from the get go.

I don't see anyone coming in as a freshman and starting ahead of Butler as a Junior. When I watch Butler, I see a future Chris Paul. He's already a fearless physical stud.

Lamont was a raw freshman last year, but his upside is indisputable IMO. He just needs to work on his outside shot to keep defenders honest. If he gets respect for his shot, he can blow by guys and take it to the rack or dish. He showed this last year in spurts. We haven't had too many PG's that I can remember who could take the ball to the rack like he can. The "author" of the article is an embarrassment to those that call themselves journalists. Love Adam Seiko and what he brings, but anybody that watched more than 1 Aztec game last year knows that Adam was not our starting PG.

You both could be right, I also like Lamont a lot… one thing is for sure… Dutcher will not have a starting PG with a 22% TO percentage…two years ago Malachi was at just over 10% amd KJ was at 16% which is about where Trey was last year.. I love that he is fearless and can attack the rim… but he has to reduce the TOs to be the starter as a junior… and it can very well happen.

When is Koren committing? Has he announced any dates? I saw back a bit it was expected in mid September so I would think he is close? Just getting ready to go streaking just need to know what date I can start celebrating.
