To be clear, I am a registered Republican, and still support reasonable, rational Republicans.
I've just hated Donald Trump since the mid 80's when his influence over the USFL led to it's ruin. I saw him in an interview as the owner of the New Jersey Generals in 1985 and I immediately recognized him for what he was. Every time I've seen him talk since I've disliked him even more.
This is an appropriate, accurate description of Donald Trump (even if it doesn't hit all the lowlights)...

Babylon 5 has to be one of the most overrated sci-fi properties in the history of the genre. I've seen the whole series all the way through, twice, and I do not understand your reverence for it.

You are in a tiny minority there. It is on almost every list of the All Time Greatest Science Fiction TV Shows in the Top 10, most in the Top 5 (many at #1). It's the writing and the acting that sets it apart. That and a VERY unique concept - that the Earth Gov is actually run by bad guys who impose martial law to maintain control. (Among many other key plot points.) B5 was one of the first shows to ever have one long story over 5 years, planned and plotted out in advance. It's been said that Game of Thrones (among many other shows) was heavily inspired by B5 (and it's actually true). But I digress, this is off topic. Londo just provided a great, succinct description of SOME of Trump's faults as a human being.

I thought Ghislaine would be pardoned by now.. she has the $$ You guys are hilarious. Neither one of you have ever heard of lobbyists? Like, never? You seriously don't know that most people in the upper echelons of government, when they retire or lose office, go to work for lobbying firms who charge fees to clients to forward their client's interests using the connections the lobbyists have cultivated professionally? That story isn't about selling a pardon for $2 million. It is a lobbyist quoting a price of $2 million to bring it up to the people he knows. The lobbyist is charging $2 million to have a conversation. If the powers that be aren't receptive, there isn't a refund given. I'm shocked this is news to you. George Clooney even created a TV show about the lobbying industry in Washington called 'K Street'.

I just googled 'greatest scifi tv shows' and got a whole screen of lists. First was Rolling Stone's list and B5 wasn't in the top-20. Next was RottenTomatoes who didn't have it in their top-10. Popular Mechanics was third on the page and they didn't have B5 in the top-20. You might be able to find some lists with B5 on it but even a cursory search shows that it is NOT "on almost every list of the All Time Greatest Science Fiction TV Shows in the Top 10". It's the writing and the acting that sets it apart. Then why has it never been rebooted or reimagined? Almost every interesting property from that era has been updated. Even good science fiction miniseries like 'V' have been redone. That and a VERY unique concept - that the Earth Gov is actually run by bad guys The concept is so unique that is it the plot of every Philip K Dick story, and little known sci-fi gems like Star Wars. If you like hard sci-fi like B5, watch The Expanse. It is better in every respect. It has better writing, acting, world building, production, far better effects, and the pacing blows the plodding B5 out of the water. If you sit and do an episode-by-episode comparison between The Expanse and B5, watch S01E01 of B5 then watch S01E01 of The Expanse, etc., you'll see that B5 isn't as good as you remember.

I've watched B5 through 7 times, and am on the 8th right now. You're comparing effects from a 25 year old show to a current show, though, and that's telling. (By the way, Star Wars had nothing to do with Earth, so Lucas' presentation of that multi-planetary government has nothing to do with this conversation. It is exceedingly rare that the Earth is presented on a TV show as the bad guys. B5 was ahead of the curve on that one.) As for B5 being, "Plodding," that sure indicates that you didn't pay attention. It hasn't been rebooted because the rights are split. TV rights are still owned by WB, while the movie rights are owned by the creator of the show. WB has shown no interest in selling the property, either, as the creator got a backing group and made a multi-million dollar offer and WB wouldn't sell. Go figure. Studio politics is heavily involved in this one. SyFy ranks it #1 of the shows over the last 25 years... www.syfy.com/syfywire/the-25-greatest-tv-series-of-the-past-25-yearsAnother vote for #1 of all time... www.phantompenpress.com/blog/2017/10/9/why-babylon-5-is-the-greatest-sci-fi-show-ever-madeMore Support... eternalaxiom.wordpress.com/2016/04/17/why-babylon-5-is-one-of-the-greatest-science-fiction-shows-ever-aired-on-television/There's so much more, but most importantly, B5 won not one, but TWO Hugo Awards for the best Science Fiction movie or TV show. You like being the contrarian, and I get that. You're a troll. That's fine. Have a nice day. Oh, and Trump is still the worst President ever. He has been a disaster for this country, and his behavior since losing the election has been reprehensible.

You're comparing effects from a 25 year old show to a current show It not just the effects I’m comparing. The Golden Age of Television is now. Peak TV is now. The series being put on today, including science fiction, are so far above the stuff put out in the 1990’s that it is almost silly to compare them. It is even sillier to insist the 90’s stuff was better or the best evaaaar. That doesn’t make me a contrarian or a troll. I hold the consensus position as I’m sure you realized after making your eyerollingly bad “every list has B5 in the top-10” proclamation only to then do an actual survey to only find one, ONE!!!!, list (and 2 other articles written by randos on the internet who didn’t make lists but expressed their B5 fandom). It is fine that you like B5. I like the sci-fi movie The Ice Pirates from 1984. You can like whatever you want but do yourself a favor. Stop watching B5 for the eighth time. You’ve seen it. If Hugo Award wins are important to you, then The Expanse won it last year which was its second Hugo win in 4 seasons. Now if you want to argue that 90’s music was the best evaaar, you could make a strong argument but not-so-much 90’s sci-fi.

You still had most of the greats from the 60s still kickin butt, as well as the new groups formed in the 70s. What an insane decade of music!!!

We used to have some really fun music discussions right here on the Poli Board. That guy John Your Pal (JYP) and some others used to get involved. It really broke up the vitriol on the board. There were a couple guys back then that were really nasty. Anyway, arguments can be made for 60's, 70's and 80's. I like some early 90's to later 2000's Black Keys...but on my #1 Spotify personal Playlist.. its eclectic... British Invasion to San Francisco / Laurel Canyon, James Brown, country rock, Reggae. 80's , to later STP, Pearl Jam etc. I remember getting into a typing war over the merits of Kiss with Eric!

I'd like to read the arguments for the 60's. That isn't to say there wasn't good music in the 1960's. There are some bands from the 60's I like a lot, but I don't know how you could take the decade as a whole and say it was better than the 1970's. As for the 1990's, I like it a lot but I see the decade's contribution as different from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. In the earlier decades I feel it was about pushing the limits outward. Entire new genres like Prog, Punk, Disco, and New Wave sprang up. The 1990's wasn't about expansion but rather fusion. The 90's took threads woven in the 60's, 70's, and 80's, often from opposite ends of the musical spectrum, then wove them together in new ways. In the 2000's there doesn't seem to be much that is truly new. I think I can count on one hand the number of acts I've seen in the past 20 years that made me sit up and realize I was seeing something different.

The British Invasaion literally took over America. There were only 3 television channels then, and a big portion of America would tune into the Ed Sullivan show just to see the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Animals, Kinks etc. The culture was completely wrapped into the music. The young were beyond excited, and the old were skeptical. You could literally feel the cultural change as on the one hand, you had riots, assassinations , instability...yet the music was incredibly powerful and hopeful. You have to remember a time with no internet, no cell phones, and few distractions. "The Moment" was everything. The late 60's brought more of an edge with the Dead, Airplane, Doors, Quicksilver , the Cream etc. Plus drugs did enter the culture. which was good and bad. If you lived in an all white neighborhood, it was enlightening to finally go to venues and parties with people who looked different from you. If you did not live through this period, the music is just music..but if you did...it is an entire cultural moment and a time of great change. I feel fortunate to have been there. Not to take anything away from 70's music...

I grew up in the 70s and I too love the decade's music, but no way it tops the 60s. I defy anyone to name another decade that can boast anything close to a an origin top 10 of Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Beach Boys, Who, Kinks, CCR, Floyd, Airplane, Doors.

That is a truly impressive list of names, but I feel when judging the musical weight of a decade it is important to consider the year the music was created rather than the year the band was formed. Take Airplane for example. I think we can all agree Airplane's best work was "We Built This City" from the landmark 1985 album "Knee Deep in the Hoopla" which naturally makes them an 80's band.
